HLN Video Interview with Riley
DETROIT (9/27/2013) -- The Horizon League women's soccer season officially opens this Saturday as the University of Detroit Mercy will play at Cleveland State at 4:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Horizon League Network.

Home Dominance
UDM is now 3-0 at home this year outscoring opponents 9-0. The Titans are currently on a three-game winning streak – all at home – with a 2-0 victory over Madonna on Tuesday, a 4-0 blanking of Stetson on Sunday, and 3-0 tally over Bowling Green last Tuesday. Dating back to the start of the 2010 season, the freshman season for current seniors
Kaitlyn Quarrell and
Abby McCollum, Detroit is 20-5-2 in 27 home games outscoring its opponents 60-11 during that time. The Titans tied a single-season best in 2012 with a 7-2 home record, equaling the win total set in 1995 when Detroit was 7-0. UDM has currently won seven straight at home and 11 of its last 12.
Horizon League Version 2013
This will be the first game of the 2013 Horizon League schedule. Detroit earned a share of the regular season title with Milwaukee a year ago and entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed. In each of the last three years, UDM has reached the Horizon League Semifinals and will be looking to reach the finals for the first time since 2006. Detroit was also the No. 2 seed in 2011 and the No. 6 seed in 2010. The Titans were 5-2 in Horizon League matches last year and 5-2-1 in 2011.
Riley Riled Up
Junior midfielder
Alyssa Riley was named the Horizon League Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It was the first career HL weekly honor for Riley. She played every minute of both home games last week for Detroit (4-4-1) as the Titans won 3-0 over Bowling Green on Tuesday (9/17) and 4-0 over Stetson on Sunday. She helped thwart the opposing team's offense from the middle of the field as Stetson posted just three shots on goal and BGSU had zero. The junior also contributed two goals to the Titan offense on Sunday against Stetson. She is now tied with senior
Kaitlyn Quarrell for the team lead in points with seven accumulating three goals and one assist in 2013. She had a chance to do a
Skype interview with HLN this past week
Cleveland State
CSU is 6-4-1 to start 2013 and jumped out to a quick 2-0 record with a 3-2 win over Canisius and a 2-1 victory over Bowling Green, both at home. The Vikings went on to drop their next four games at Kent State, Western Michigan, at Miami (Fla.), and Florida International. Cleveland State then came back with three straight wins and has not lost in five matches with a 4-0-1 mark. The last time out, the Vikings defeated Akron, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon. CSU was picked to finish eighth of eight Horizon League teams in the Horizon League Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released back on Aug. 14. Detroit was
picked to finish first.
The Vikings and Titans
Detroit is 6-1-2 all-time against the Vikings with the only loss coming in the 2009 season. That year, Cleveland State won a 1-0 contest at home. The two teams met at Titan Field in 2012 with UDM posting a 2-0 victory. Detroit holds an overall 32-5 scoring advantage in the nine games played between the two programs, and that was helped a lot by the Titans winning the first-ever match-up, 13-0, in 2004 in Detroit.
Road Trip to Milwaukee
The next game for the Titans will be after a long bus ride to Milwaukee for another Horizon League contest as Detroit meets up with the Panthers next Saturday. Start time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (ET).
