LOUISVILLE, Ky. (2/16/14) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse played the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium and the home team came out with an 18-1 victory.

It was the first outdoor game of the season for Detroit in a cool 37 degrees, but the Cardinals started out hot right from the opening draw control. Louisville (1-1) netted the first 10 goals of the game to take a 10-0 lead 19:57 into the first half.

Redshirt junior Annie Mendoza was able to break the scoring streak for the Cardinals as she tallied her first goal as a Titan with 1:53 left in the first half. Mendoza transferred to Detroit from Lake Eric College (Painesville, Ohio) in 2013 but had to miss the entire 2013 campaign due to injury. The first goal for Mendoza in her Division I career made it a 10-1 lead for the Cardinals.

Louisville added two more goals before the end of the first half and went into the break up by a 12-1 score. Detroit had a 6-4 edge in ground balls after the first half of play.

Detroit (0-2) held Louisville to six goals in the second half but Louisville was able to stay on top for the win.

Sophomore Morgan Miller led all players with a game-high four ground balls. Fellow sophomore Ally Shrader helped the Titan defense forcing two caused turnovers and also had a draw control. Midfielder Kylie Birney had two draw controls for Detroit.

Junior goalkeeper Lexie McCormick made 12 saves and had three ground balls and sophomore Ty Dykes was able to see time in the cage in the final 2:41 and she saved the lone shot she faced.

The Titans will return to Detroit for the 2014 home opener on Sunday, March 2 vs. Marquette. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. ET at Titan Field.
