LAST OUTING
Junior Juwan Howard Jr. recorded his 13th 20-point performance of the season and freshman Jarod Williams poured in career-high 17 points as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team used an early second half run and some strong defense to extinguish the UIC Flames, 65-59, Tuesday night at the UIC Pavilion. With the win the Titans improved to a perfect 7-0 this season when holding opponents to under 60 points.

UIC (5-22, 0-13 HL) held a 36-34 lead at the half, before Detroit (13-15, 6-7 HL) erupted with a 10-0 run to start the second stanza and never looked back.

Howard finished with a game-high 20 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots, while Williams added 17 points and three steals. Sophomore Carlton Brundidge finished with 15 points, including 12 in the first half.

Detroit finished shooting 40 percent (20-49) overall and 76 percent (22-29) from the charity stripe, while holding UIC to just 36 percent (17-47) overall, including 18 percent (4-22) in the second half. The Flames won the battle on the boards 34-32, but turned the ball over 15 times, including 10 times in the second half.

ABOUT THE RAIDERS
Down as much as 13 in the second half and 10 with 2:13 to play, the Wright State men's basketball ended the game with a 15-4 run to pull out a 72-71 win at Oakland Sunday afternoon.

Following an Oakland turnover, Cole Darling hit two foul shots with 21 seconds remaining to put the Raiders up one.  Duke Mondy answered with two free throws of his own with 13 seconds left to put the Golden Grizzlies back in front, setting the stage for AJ Pacher, whose jumper at the 1.6-second mark hit the rim four times and went in for the game-winner.

WSU hit 12 of 21 shots in the second half, including five of 10 threes, to finish at 50 percent overall while Oakland shot 37 percent after halftime to end up at 39 percent for the game.

Darling led all scorers with 21 points while Pacher posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Jerran Young added 11 points and seven boards.

SERIES WITH WRIGHT STATE
This will be the 48th meeting between Detroit and Wright State, with the Titans leading the all-time series 25-22. Detroit won the first meeting this year 58-53 at Calihan Hall. Both teams split in the regular season last year with road wins, before the Raiders upended Detroit 56-54 in the Horizon League Semifinals.

1 FOR 100
Detroit Titans head coach Ray McCallum enters Friday's game just one win shy of becoming the fourth head coach in Titans history to record 100 or more for #DetroitsCollegeTeam.

Titan legend Bob Calihan leads the way with 306 wins while, Perry Watson (261) and Lloyd Brazil (185) are second and third, respectively. Calihan coached at Detroit for 21 years, while Brazil ran the show for 16 seasons and Watson 15. McCallum is currently in his sixth campaign with Detroit.

FRESHMAN BACKCOURT
The Titans have started freshman guards Matthew Grant and Jarod Williams in the backcourt together over the last four games, making the pair the first freshmen guards to start for Detroit since Ray McCallum and Jason Calliste did in 2010. The only difference being that both Grant and Williams are true freshmen, while in 2010 Calliste was a redshirt freshman. The last time two true freshmen started in the Titan backcourt together dates back to the 1980-81 season when Audie Matthews and Mark Moore started 13 games together.

CLEANING THE GLASS
Entering Friday's game the Titans lead the Horizon League in offensive rebounds with 12.6 per game and ranks second overall with 37.5 per game. Senior co-captain Evan Bruinsma leads the team and ranks second in the League with 7.9 boards per game, while Ugochukwu Njoku (6.2) and Juwan Howard Jr. (5.4) rank seventh and 11th.
