Pair of Michigan Meets Prepare Men’s Indoor Track and Field for Horizon League Championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (2/22/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's indoor track and field competed in its final weekend of preparation before the 2014 Horizon League Indoor Championships. The Titans split this weekend with competition at Grand Valley State and the University of Michigan.
 
At Grand Valley State at the GVSU Tune-Up, the Titan runners saw sophomore Joshua Carolin earn a time of 4:26.32 in the mile run and place 22nd overall.
 
Freshman Ryan Leahy 8:51.50 topped senior Martin Nelkie's run of 8:52.78 in the 3000m. Leahy finished 14th overall and Nelkie was right behind in 15th. Junior George Holman also competed and had a time of 9:04.14.
 
At Michigan at the Silverston Invitational, freshman Ilia Panev continued to make strides in his first year with Detroit. Panev had a personal best of 8.25 in the 60 meter hurdles which was good for No. 5 on the all-time Titan list. He was also tenth in the long jump with a leap of 6.24m.
 
Senior Charles Anthony was seventh in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.04. Anthony was also fifth in the 200 meter race with a time of 22.469 which was just behind the fourth place mark of 22.463. Freshman Brandon Wilks was seventh clocking in at 22.76.
 
The Titans will conclude the indoor conference season with the 2014 Horizon League Indoor Championships that is scheduled for March 1-2 and will be hosted by Youngstown State.
