BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. (3/2/2014) -- Sophomore Kylie Birney scored four goals and freshman Kelsi Pritchard scored two goals and two assists for Detroit on Sunday afternoon as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team fell 15-9 to the Marquette Golden Eagles at the indoor Field House at Detroit Country Day High School.

The Titans (0-3) also saw a record fall as junior goalkeeper Lexie McCormick made a save with 22:55 left in the first half and her second save with 17:26 left to go in the first half was the 347th of her Titan career giving her the most career saves ever recorded by a Titan goalie in the history of the UDM women's lacrosse program. McCormick finished with 10 saves overall on the day and now has 355 as she looks to continue to add to her lead in the category.

Birney had four goals, Pritchard had two goals and two assists, junior Tessa Keuler scored two goals and had a team-high three ground balls, and sophomore Michaela Schwartz had a goal and two assists for the Titans.  Sophomore Morgan Miller had two caused turnovers to lead the Titans.

Marquette (2-2) opened the scoring 1:02 in the game and held the 1-0 lead until the 8:59 mark when Birney tallied the first of her four goals on the day to tie the contest, 1-1.

The Golden Eagles countered with three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead before Schwartz scored her first goal of the year taking a pass from Pritchard. The helper from Pritchard was the first collegiate point for the freshman from Orillia, Ontario and it made the game 4-2 with 10:53 left in the first half.

Marquette recorded another goal and Birney followed with her second of the day for a 5-3 score. The Golden Eagles closed the first half with three goals to take an 8-3 advantage heading into the break.

After a quick goal from Marquette 1:09 into the second half, Birney scored goal number three with an assist from Schwartz which was followed by a Keuler goal on a pass from Pritchard to cut the lead to 9-5.

Marquette went up with a five-goal lead again but Pritchard's marker with 19:49 to go made it 10-6 as the Titans would just not go away.

The Golden Eagles scored two more goals before Birney's fourth goal of the game pulled the Titans to within five and a 12-7 deficit with 12:13 to play.

Marquette added two goals to try and close the contest but Pritchard's second of the day followed by Keuler's second would bring the game to 14-9. The Titans would not be able to close the gap with the visitors working the clock and a late goal from Marquette with three seconds on the clock made the finale, 15-9.

Detroit will look ahead to its next game in Elon, North Carolina as the Titans will take on the newest member of the Atlantic Sun in the Elon Phoenix Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. ET.
