PELKIN, Ill. (4/6/2014) --
Sophomore Wil Wittmann turned in a career performance for a two-round tournament and the Titans lowered their score from the first round as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team claimed a share of third place at the Bradley Invitational on Sunday.

The Titans posted a 292 in Sunday's final round to end with a 586 (294-292), the fifth best score in a 36-hole tournament in school history. The 292 was also the fifth lowest score on the season for Detroit. UDM was just two shots behind second place Loyola (584) and seven shy of Evansville (579).

"It was tougher out there today with the pin placement, but anytime you have four guys in the top 20, that's what you want to do," said head coach Mark Engel. "We are lowering our scores as the season goes on and that is what you want to see."

Wittmann carded his second-straight round under par with a 1-under 71 to finish with a career-low 142 for third, his third career top-five effort, just three shots off the lead. The 142 was two strokes better this his previous career low of 144 at Dayton as a freshman.

Freshman Kyle Gaines put up another great round as the rookie shot a 1-over 73 in round two for a 147 total and a share of 12th place, his highest finish of the season.

Senior Brendan Leonard tied his career low for 36 holes with a 148 as he followed his 74 yesterday with another 2-over 74 on the final 18 to tie for 14th.

Sophomore Josh Shaw recorded a career-low 149 (75-74) for a share of 19th and his first career top-20 tournament, while freshman Spencer Lendzion fired a 76 for a 154 (78-76) scorecard and 34th place.

The Titans will have one final tournament before the Horizon League Championship as they replaced their home event – cancelled due to course conditions – with the Red Flash Invitational hosted by St. Francis (PA) from April 14-15 at the Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pa.
