JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (5/4/2014) -- The No. 1 seed Jacksonville Dolphins overpowered the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon in the Atlantic Sun Finals as the Dolphins downed the third-seeded Titans 18-4 in Southern Oak Stadium. The game was shown live on ESPN3 and marked the first time the UDM women's lacrosse team played on the national network.

Annie Mendoza led the Titans (5-13, 3-2 Atlantic Sun) offensively with two goals while Julie Castner and Erin Campbell also scored for the Titans. Castner added an assist and Lauren Sharkey also had a helper against Jacksonville (14-5, 5-0 A-Sun).

Titan goalkeeper Lexie McCormick made four saves in the first half but Detroit was outshot 21-9 overall and 16-7 on goal in the opening half. McCormick finished the day with six saves and team-best four ground balls.

Amanda Guthrie and Morgan Lear each had two caused turnovers to lead the team. Guthrie also tied McCormick for the team-high with four ground balls while Kylie Birney had two. Mendoza and Castner each had two draw controls.

Jacksonville scored the first three goals of the game but Erin Campbell rallied the troops as her goal with 24:07 left in the first half cut the lead to 3-1 for Jacksonville.

The Dolphins went on to record the next nine goals before Castner took a pass from Sharkey and netted her first career postseason goal for the Titans to make it 12-2 with 29 seconds left in the first half. The teams would go into the break with the same score as JU had a 12-3 edge in draw controls and 14-8 advantage in ground balls.

The Titans did see two yellow cards in the first half to Jacksonville's Brittney Orashen, the 2014 A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year, who did not play the final 36:48 of the game including the entire second half.

JU finished with a 36-13 edge in overall shots and an 18-6 draw control advantage. The Dolphins had 27 ground balls to 15 for Detroit.

Annie Mendoza, Tessa Keuler, and Lexie McCormick all named to the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team following the game.

The game brings the careers of seniors Vittoria Wallace and Erin Campbell to a close. Campbell has been with the Titans for five years suffering through nagging injuries the first three years before becoming an offensive team leader in each of the last two seasons. She finished her career with 97 goals and 25 assists for 122 points in 56 games and also 64 ground balls, 15 draw controls, and 12 caused turnovers. Wallace joined the Titans in January 2014 and played in 16 games this year with six goals, 12 ground balls, 18 draw controls, and five caused turnovers and provided much needed experience to a Titan team with 12 underclassmen.

2014 marked the second straight year Detroit reached the Atlantic Sun Finals. It was also the second straight year the Titans fell to Jacksonville in the championship game. The host of the 2015 Atlantic Sun Women's Lacrosse Tournament is yet to be determined.
