DETROIT (8/15/2014) -- In just a few weeks, the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team will be back on campus and working out, but for some members of the squad, they just finished their summer playing schedule in Canada.

The Titans had one active player and three alums play in Major Series Lacrosse, the Senior A box lacrosse league based out of Ontario and sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association.

Senior
Shayne Adams played for the Oakville Rock and was third on the team with 40 points – 13th in the MSL – third tallying 28 assists – 11th in the MSL - and fourth posting 12 goals. He had his best statistical game of the season registering five assists and seven points in a win over Brampton and also recorded five points on three helpers and two goals against Peterborough.

Recent graduate
Tom Masterson was with the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks and he played in seven games picking up nine points on eight assists and a goal.

Former three-time MAAC LSM of the Year
Jordan Houtby was with the Brooklin Redmen and he had three assists and a goal, helping the team win the regular season championship.
Joel Matthews began the year with Brooklin and was then traded to Kitchener-Waterloo. For the season, he tallied five goals, eight assists and 13 points and added another three assists in the playoffs.

Kyle Pedwell.

Ducharme was with the Orangeville Northmen and he had a great season finishing second on his team in points (60, also good for 25th in the OJALL), assists (33) and goals (27). He had some huge games with seven points on five assists and two goals against Mississauga, five points on three assists and two goals against Peterborough and Barrie and another five-point outburst with three goals against Toronto as Orangeville claimed third in the regular season. He then added five goals and a helper in the playoffs.

Callaghan was with the Mississauga Tomahawks and he led the team with 58 points, 34 goals – tied for 12th in league play - and 24 assists. The offensive threat had three games with six points, all on three goals and three assists, in the regular season.

Weber, the 2014 MAAC Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year, played in just three games in the regular season for the Whitby Warriors and was 2-1 with 70 saves and a 6.92 goals against average, while picking up one helper. He took over the starting job late in the year due to injury and then helped his squad to the OJALL championship. He played in all 14 games during the playoff runs, where Whitby defeated Orangeville in the first round 3-1, rallied past Brampton 4-2 in the semifinals after dropping the first two before running out of gas against Six Nations Arrows in the title series. He made 340 saves with an 8.79 goals against average and a .734 save percentage in the postseason and also started the offensive transitions racking up 14 assists. Â

Butters and Pedwell suited up with the St. Catharines Athletics. Butters saw action in most of the games ending with four goals and two assists for six points in the regular season and tacked on a goal in the playoffs, while Pedwell played in one game recording an assist.

Meanwhile, two incoming freshmen played in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League in
Jeff Fernandes and
Adam Perroni as both helped lead the Green Gaels to a Mid East Division title. Fernandes was fourth on the team in points (68), third in assists (45) and fourth in goals (23), while Perroni had 17 points on 10 goals and seven assists. In the playoffs, Fernandes added 17 points on 14 assists and three goals and Perroni had two goals and two assists as Green advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

The Titans - who announced Chris Kolon '09 (MBA) as their second head coach in school history on July 14 - are set to return over 35 players from last year's team, including All-MAAC First Team members in Adams, Weber and junior defender
Paul Bitetti along with two-time All-Conference midfielder in senior
Mike Birney and 2014 Second Team midfielder
Scott Drummond.
