DETROIT (8/19/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team advanced to the Atlantic Sun Championship for the second-straight year, but the Titans have also always done the work in the classroom and today, three UDM student athletes were named to the IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll in Morgan Lear, Tessa Keuler and Annie Mendoza.
 
The IWLCA honored 233 student-athletes from 79 different institutions in the 2014 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. All student athletes were nominated by their schools and have achieved at least junior status academically and had a cumulative academic GPA or 3.50 or greater. Leading the way was the 2014 IWLCA Division I Scholar-Athlete of the Year Katelyn Miller from Bucknell University.
 
Detroit was one of only two schools from the A-Sun to have representatives on the academic honor roll with the other being Jacksonville.
 
Lear led the way with a 4.0 GPA as she is pursuing her MBA. Keuler holds a 3.969 GPA in business administration, while Mendoza has a 3.5 in communications.
 
Lear rebounded from a knee injury that kept her out of 2013 and was one of the Titans' top defenders in 2014. She collected 23 ground balls – tied for fifth on the team – and posted 15 caused turnovers – tied for third on the club – and also pulled in two draw controls. She was a member of the Atlantic Sun Second Team for her first career conference honor as well as the Detroit Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
 
Keuler led the Titans with 40 points and 18 assists and was fourth on the squad with 22 goals last season. She also had 23 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers, and 10 draw controls and was a member of the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team for second straight season, the Detroit Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the A-Sun All-Tournament Team.
 
Mendoza also made a great return to the field after missing 2013 with a knee injury and led the squad with 36 draw controls, while tying for third on the team with 27 points and finishing third tallying 25 goals. She was also tabbed to the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team and the UDM Athletic Director's honor Roll.
 
The Titan student athletes will all be back on campus for the start of the 2014-15 season next week and fall practice and scrimmages will be on the docket for UDM in September and October.
