AURORA, Ohio (9/30/2014) -- Rain, rain, go away, is the tune going on right now for the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team as the Titans saw their second-straight tournament come to an early end due to inclement weather as the third round of the Cleveland State Invitational was called off on Tuesday morning.
Heavy rains in the morning forced a delay and ultimately the cancellation at the Par 72 7,049-yard Barrington Country Club in Aurora, Ohio.
The Titans ended in fourth place after posting a 584 (292-292) total, good for the fifth best 36-hole school in school history and the best two-round tournament since 2008. Detroit was in position to not only move up in the standings, but go after a tournament win as it trailed only Appalachian State (579), Youngstown State (580) and Wright State (581).
Sophomore
Kyle Gaines was once again the low man as he shared fifth with a 143 (72-71), just two shots off the lead. He has now finished in the top 10 in all three events this season and five in a row dating back to last year.
