DETROIT (1/6/15) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will continue Horizon League play when the Titans host Metro Series rival Oakland on Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at historic Calihan Hall and will be televised locally on WADL and nationally on ESPN3 with Matt Dery and Earl Cureton making the call.

METRO SERIESThe rivalry between the UDM and Oakland, the Metro Series, will get a boost from the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (MSHOF) and PASS Charters. The winner of the Metro Series will get $10,000 in scholarship funding and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Cup will be awarded to the winning teams between men's basketball and women's basketball.

The Titans and Golden Grizzlies are currently tied 4-4 in the Metro Series through the fall competition. Oakland opened the rivalry with a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime victory in men's soccer in Detroit, but the Titans rebounded with a 2-1 overtime win in women's soccer. Detroit and Oakland then split the cross country competition at the Horizon League Championships, with the Titans men's team winning its second-straight League Championship. The next clash between Detroit and Oakland will be in men's basketball on Saturday, Jan. 10, for a 3 p.m. tip inside Calihan Hall.

LAST OUTINGJuwan Howard Jr. led the way with 26 points – 20 in the second half - as the University of Detroit Mercy used a big run in the first half to open a lead it would never give back in defeating defending Horizon League champion Milwaukee, 83-67, on Sunday afternoon inside historic Calihan Hall. The win ended UDM's six-game slide as it moved to 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League.Â

Howard Jr. also had five rebounds and a team and game-high six assists. Â
Anton Wilson netted 12 points with five rebounds and three assists, while
Paris Bass added 14 points and four boards.

UDM ended the game shooting 51.5 percent (34-of-66) with 18 assists on its 34 baskets, while outrebounding the Panthers, 38-23. Detroit also had a 13-1 advantage in second chance points and a great showing by the bench outscoring Milwaukee's, 32-10.
ABOUT OAKLANDKahlil Felder scored a career-high 32 points, including 11 in overtime, and Oakland put away Valparaiso 89-75 in the Horizon League opener for both teams on Friday night.

Felder went 19 of 24 on free throws, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists. The 19 free throws made set a new single-game school record. Jalen Hayes had 16 points with eight boards and Nick Daniels chipped in 14 points for the Golden Grizzlies (5-10, 1-0 HL).

The Golden Grizzlies visit Cleveland State (8-8, 2-0 HL) on Thursday, before heading to Calihan Hall for the Metro Series on Saturday.
SERIES WITH GOLDEN GRIZZLIESThis will be the 15th meeting between Detroit and Oakland, with the Titans leading the all-time series 11-3. Oakland won both meetings last year, including a 77-69 comeback in front of 7,000 fans at Calihan Hall. Detroit's last win in the series was a 76-60 victory on Dec. 3, 2003 at Calihan Hall.

DETROIT IN THE TOP-50Heading into Saturday's game Detroit finds itself ranked among the top-50 in the nation in three categories, three-point field goal percentage, turnover margin and steals per game. The Titans rank 39th in three-point field goal percentage (38.6), 40th in turnover margin (+2.8) and 50th in steals per game (7.9).Â
HOWARD IS 27 AND CLIMBINGDetroit senior forward
Juwan Howard Jr. recently became the 39th Titan to join the 1,000-point club and currently ranks 27th all-time with 1,137 points. Former Titan Doug Chappell '84 is the next on the list as he ranks 26th overall with 1,169 points. Juwan Howard, Sr. scored 1,526 points at the University of Michigan from 1992-94 as part of the Fab Five.

FIVE-GAME HOLIDAY TICKET PACKAGEThe University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics is helping kick off the holiday season by announcing a five-game Horizon League Holiday Pack for just $55. For that price, Detroit Titans fans will get men's basketball tickets to five Horizon League home games in 2015 at historic Calihan Hall.
In addition, the first 25 fans that purchase the Holiday Pack will also receive a free Titan coffee mug (one per pack).
The tickets are good for upper reserved seating and the ticket package opens with the highly anticipated first men's basketball meeting of the season between Detroit and Oakland on Jan. 10 in what is also the first men's basketball Metro Series rivalry meeting.
The other four conference home games in the package are against league favorite Green Bay on Jan. 17, UIC on Feb. 8, Cleveland State on Feb. 13 and Valparaiso on Feb. 25 for the regular season finale. The games are locked in and not interchangeable for another home game.
UP NEXTDetroit will continue Horizon League play when the Titans visit the Windy City to face UIC on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET at the UIC Pavilion and will be televised nationally on ESPN3.
