Titans Tripped Up At Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (11/20/2015) -- Senior Anton Wilson and the rest of the Titans came to play on Friday night, and some hot shooting gave Detroit a second-half lead, but Pittsburgh was able to mount a rally as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell, 95-79, at the Peterson Events Center.

Wilson tallied a season-high 20 points, while sophomore Jaleel Hogan posted a career-best 16 points and five rebounds. Senior Carlton Brundidge had 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds and four assists and junior Chris Jenkins added nine.

Detroit (1-1) was down by double digits midway through the first half as Pitt (2-0) jumped out to a 25-12 lead with 11:18 to play in the first. A few minutes later, Pittsburgh still led by double digits, 29-18, but that is when the Titans made their first run scoring seven in a row. Hogan started it with a bucket and after a three by Wilson – who had 20 points in the first half – Jenkins hit two free throws to cut the deficit to just four, 29-25.

After a Pittsburgh basket, junior Jarod Williams laid it in and then Wilson found the bottom of the net from behind the arc and the Titans were within one, 31-30, with 6:20 left.

The Panthers netted five in a row, but another trey from Wilson and a layup by McFolley trimmed it to just one again, 36-35, at the 4:34 mark, but Pittsburgh would go into the half up by five, 46-41.

Detroit continued to battle and came out on fire in the second half, hitting six of its first eight shots to go on an 11-6 run and jump out in front, 53-52.  The Panthers took the advantage right back and led, 56-53, when Hogan got inside for two more to make it a one-point game.

Pittsburgh answered with an 8-0 run and the Panthers would eventually push its lead to double digits the rest of the way.

UDM ended up shooting 42.4 percent from the field and had 14 assists on its 28 baskets. The Titans also forced 10 turnovers and had six blocks.

The Titans will return home on Monday, Nov. 23, as the red, white and blue hosts UM-Dearborn at 7:00 p.m., inside historic Calihan Hall. For tickets, click here.
