DETROIT (2/14/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will begin its three-game road trip when the Titans visit Metro Series rival Oakland on Sunday, Feb. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the O'rena and will be televised locally on TV20 and nationally on ESPN3.

METRO SERIESThe rivalry between the UDM and Oakland, the Metro Series, will get a boost from the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (MSHOF) and PASS Charters. The winner of the Metro Series will get $10,000 in scholarship funding and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Cup will be awarded to the winning teams between men's basketball and women's basketball.

The Titans currently lead the Golden Grizzlies 8-4 in the Metro Series following the fall competition and the first two basketball games. Oakland opened the rivalry with a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime victory in men's soccer in Detroit, but the Titans rebounded with a 2-1 overtime win in women's soccer. Detroit and Oakland then split the cross country competition at the Horizon League Championships, with the Titans men's team winning its second-straight League Championship.

LAST OUTINGJuwan Howard Jr. nailed a go-ahead 3-pointer with five seconds left to push the University of Detroit Mercy past first place Cleveland State, 66-65, on Friday night at Calihan Hall in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU.

The Titans (12-15, 5-7 HL) trailed by two, 65-63, with 13 seconds left when they inbounded the ball. Moving up the court,
Chris Jenkins was able to find Howard Jr. on the left side and he drained the triple with 4.8 left in the game.

Cleveland State (15-11, 9-3 HL) then took the inbounds pass and Charlie Lee ran it up the floor and all the way to the net, but his layup rimmed out for the win.

Howard Jr. finished with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting with three 3-pointers and three assists.
Anton Wilson had nine points and Jenkins scored eight with four rebounds and his lone helper of the contest on the game winner.
ABOUT OAKLANDKahlil Felder scored 14 points with nine assists for Oakland, but the Golden Grizzlies couldn't overcome Milwaukee's hot shooting from behind the arc as they fell to the Panthers, 84-67.

Steve McWhorter scored 17 points with nine assists and four steals, and J.R. Lyle added 15 points as Milwaukee made a season-high 13 3-point shots.

In the final two minutes before halftime, Nick Daniels and Max Hooper hit three straight treys as Oakland (12-14, 7-4) closed to 31-27. Hooper, who finished with 15 points on five 3-pointers, added another trey to boost the Golden Grizzlies into a 32-31 lead just after halftime.
SERIES WITH GOLDEN GRIZZLIESThis will be the 16th meeting between Detroit and Oakland, with the Titans leading the all-time series 12-3. Detroit won the first meeting this season 74-54 at historic Calihan Hall to take an 8-4 lead in the Metro Series. Oakland won both meetings last year, including an overtime thriller 83-82 in front of record crowd at the O'rena.

PARIS OVER 300UDM freshman sensation
Paris Bass recently became the 15th Titan to score 300 points during his rookie campaign. Bass enters Sunday's game with 325 points, which is 14 points more than the Titans all-time leading scorer Rashad Phillips '01, who scored 311 during his freshman season.

The last Titan freshman to score 300 or more points during his rookie season was
Ray McCallum, who finished with 446 points in 2010.

HOWARD IS 21st OVERALLThis season, Detroit senior forward
Juwan Howard Jr. became the 39th Titan to join the 1,000-point club and is currently 21st all-time on the list with 1,318 points. Former Titan Jermaine Jackson '99, who was honored during Sunday's game with the John Conti Award, sits at number 20 on the list with 1,341 points.

2015 HL FIRST-ROUND TICKETS AVAILABLEThe 2015 Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship begins Tuesday (March 3) with two first-round games on campus sites. Detroit, which is currently holding on to the fifth seed, could be one of the two teams to host a home game in the first-round at historic Calihan Hall.

If the Titans host a first-round game all tickets will be available for $5 each. Tickets are currently available to be pre-ordered and will be sold, as soon as Detroit knows it is hosting a first-round game. This game is not included in the season ticket package; all in attendance will have to purchase a $5 general admission ticket for this game.

TITAN LUNCHEON ANNOUNCEDThe UDM Department of Athletics has announced that its fourth Titan Luncheon of the 2014-15 season will be held on Monday, Feb. 23, inside historic Calihan Hall at 12:30 p.m.

Ray McCallum talking about senior day (Feb. 25), the upcoming match-up with Valparaiso and how the Titans look going into the Horizon League Championship. Head women's basketball coach
Autumn Rademacher '97 will also talk about final two weeks of League play before the women begin their post-season run.
