Dittel Competes at Junior Olympic Fencing Championships

RICHMOND, Va. (2/14/2015) --
University of Detroit Mercy sophomore Aaron Dittel competed in the 2015 Junior Olympic Fencing Championships on Friday, fencing in the junior men's epee among 246 competitors overall.

Dittel, in his second year of fencing in the epee for the Titans, won two bouts in pool play. He finished 190th overall out of 246 participants. Dittel finished with 19 touches scored against 28 touches received overall for a -9 indicator.

In his pool, Dittel earned a 5-4 victory over Christopher Kim. Dittel also earned a 5-4 victory over Stephen Kimatian for his second bout victory in pool play. He nearly earned two other victories, but finished on the wrong side of two 5-4 bouts to Zachary Cheng and Gabriel Bronfman.

Dittel was seeded No. 187 entering direct elimination where he faced No. 70 Daniel Small out of the Northwest Fencing Center in Oregon. Dittel fell to Small in the first round, 15-10. Small would end up making it to the round of 32.

The Titans return competitively on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21-22, competing in the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
