BLUFFTON, S.C. (3/10/2015) -- Junior
Wil Wittmann recorded his 11th career top-20 finish and the Titans moved up one position as the Colleton River Collegiate came to an end on Tuesday.
The Michigan State event was played at the Colleton River Plantation Club with the final round held on the Par 72, 7,403-yard Pete Dye Course.
"We played very similar to yesterday, but it's a process and this is our version of spring training," said head coach
Luke LaFave '02. "This was a very strong field and the course played really tough today. We did a lot of good things and we just need to keep working hard."
The Titans ended the tournament with a 308 on the final 18 for a 913 (302-303-308) score and ninth place, ahead of Oakland, Rutgers, South Dakota State, Drake and Creighton. Tennessee won the event with an 872.
Wittmann had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday as he carded a 2-over 74 and finished with a 223 (75-74-73) for 17th place, the same score he shot last year. He led the Titans with 33 pars and nine birdies and was tied for fourth on the course's Par 5's with a -5, 4.58 average.
"Wil played great from start to finish and if he had a few more putts fall in, he could have easily been in the top 10," added Coach LaFave.

Aaron Knutson tallied a 229 (75-75-79) for 40th – taking 24 strokes off his score at the event last year - while freshman
Eric Macrow had a 231 (76-76-79) to earn 44th in his first collegiate 54-hole event. Knutson also knocked in eight birdies and Macrow drained five.

Detroit played the Par 3's very well finishing with a 3.23 (+14) average, third best in the 14-team field, while collecting 34 birdies, fourth most among the competitors.
Detroit will be back on the links next week, March 16-17, as the red, white and blue travel to Cookeville, Tennessee, to compete in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee Tech at the Sevierville Golf Club's River Course.
