OXFORD, Ohio (3/12/2015) – The University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped its first game of the Miami Invitational, 6-3, to Robert Morris Thursday at the Miami Softball Stadium.
Robert Morris (9-10) scored the first six runs of the game to take a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. Before two Titans were able to cross the plate to make it a 6-2 game heading into the fifth inning.

Arriana Acuna came in to pinch run. Junior
Katy Severson then reached on a throwing error advancing Acuna to second. Freshman
Savanna Ferstle then cleared the bases with a 2-run double down the left field line to make the score 6-2. Ferstle advanced to third on the throw home, but was left at the hot corner after
Samantha Wolschleger struck out and
Vanessa Garcia flew out to right field to end the threat.
Detroit (1-14) pitching then stepped up to keep the Colonials scoreless over the next two innings, before senior
Kayla Kostich hit her second long ball of the season – a solo shot to right center – to bring the Titans a run closer 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
The Titans kept RMU scoreless in the top of the seventh and put one runner on in the bottom of the inning, but that was as close as the red, white and blue would come to completing its comeback.
The Titans will have a day off before facing North Dakota at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a game against the host Miami in the nightcap at 7 p.m. The red, white and blue will complete the four-game tournament with another game against Robert Morris on Sunday at 11:15 a.m.
