Titans Host No. 8 Seed Youngstown State in Horizon League Tournament

– The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will begin the 2015 Horizon League Championship on Tuesday, March 3 when the No. 5 seeded Titans host No. 8 Youngstown State at historic Calihan Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and will be live on ESPN3 with Matt Dery and Earl Cureton making the call.
 
The game can also be heard on AM 1270 with the voice of the Titans Dan Leach.

HORIZON LEAGUE SEEDING
No. 5 Detroit will host No. 8 Youngstown State on Tuesday with the winner advancing to Valparaiso to face No. 4 Cleveland State on Friday, March 6.

No. 6 seeded UIC will play host to No. 7 Wright State on Tuesday with the winner of that game moving on to Valparaiso to face No. 3 Oakland on Friday.

No. 1 seeded Valparaiso and No. 2 Green Bay both have double byes to the semifinals and will player the Friday night winners. If the Titans advanced to the semifinals they would face Valparaiso, while the winner of the UIC/Wright State vs. Oakland game would face Green Bay.

TITANS IN THE HL CHAMPIONSHIP
Detroit enters Tuesday's first round game against Youngstown State with a 33-32 all-time record in the Horizon League Tournament. The Titans have reached the semifinals in three out of the last five seasons. Under head coach Ray McCallum, Detroit is 7-5 in the HL postseason with one tournament championship in 2012. Detroit also won the tournament in 1994 and 1999.

LAST OUTING
Senior Brandan Kearney scored a team-high 14 points, but three free throws by senior Juwan Howard Jr. at the end sealed the victory as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team rallied past first place Valparaiso, 63-60, on Senior Night in historic Calihan Hall.
 
Prior to the game, the Titans honored their two seniors along with senior members of the Spirit squad.
 
The win moved Detroit to 14-17 on the year and 7-9 in the Horizon League as it will be the No. 5 seed and host a HL Championship.
In a game that featured eight ties and 15 lead changes, the contest was all knotted up at 60-all with 1:25 left as both teams had a chance to pull ahead in the final minute. With 20 seconds on the clock, Valpo's Keith Carter's shot was clocked setting up the Titans final shot. With the time running down, Howard Jr. had the ball and went up for a 3-pointer, which he missed, but a foul was called on the play giving him three free throws with one second on the clock.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS
Senior Shawn Amiker scored a game-high 23 points and junior Bobby Hain became the 36th player in school history to score 1,000 career points, but the Youngstown State men's basketball team fell to Milwaukee, 82-74, on Saturday night at the Beeghly Center.

Amiker made 8-of-16 field goals and had seven rebounds and sophomore Marcus Keene had 21 points to lead the Penguins, who fall to 11-20 overall and 2-14 in the Horizon League. Hain also posted his ninth double-double of the year with 13 rebounds. Senior DJ Cole added 13 points and four assists.

The Penguins, who trailed by as many as 24 in the first half, erased a 19-point second half deficit and took a two-point lead, 69-67, with 5:19 left on a jumper by Hain.

SERIES WITH YOUNGSTOWN STATE
This will be the 39th meeting between Detroit and Youngstown State, with the Titans leading the all-time series 29-9. Detroit won both meetings this year during the regular season, including a 93-87 win in overtime at historic Calihan Hall. The last time Detroit played Youngstown State in the Horizon League Championship was during the 2011-12 season. The Titans topped the Penguins, 93-76, in the quarterfinals hosted by Valparaiso on March 2, 2012.
 
2015 SUMMER CAMPS ANNOUNCED
The UDM men's basketball team has announced its 2015 summer camp dates including the widely renowned Ray McCallum Basketball Team Shootouts and the High School Elite Camp.
 
There are two different dates for the Team Shootouts: June 22nd and June 23rd, with each camp featuring three guaranteed games (possible five games), registered officials on each court and Nike Camp T-shirts for each team member. The cost is just $200 per team-- hurry, there are only 32 team spots available per camp!
 
The High School Elite Camp is scheduled for June 24th from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. This camp is designed for top players to spend an evening with coach McCallum and his staff and see what Detroit Titans Basketball is all about. Players will face an elite level of competition and will be evaluated by UDM coaching staff. Players will receive a Nike camp T-shirt and will gain knowledge of NCAA rules as well as flexibility and strength training ideas. Cost of this camp is just $35.
 
Both camps will be held on Dick Vitale Court inside historic Calihan Hall.
