Softball Drops Extra-Inning Affair Against #MetroSeries Rival Oakland

DETROIT (4/12/2015) – Oakland's Morgan Muron hit a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to lift the Golden Grizzlies past the University of Detroit Mercy softball team 7-5 on Sunday at Buysse Ballpark.

The Titans led 5-3 heading into the top of the fifth inning before the Golden Grizzlies used pair a of 2-run blasts to complete the weekend sweep and gain six points in the Metro Series.

Detroit (3-32, 0-9 HL) scored three runs in the first inning and added another in the third off Christa McGahuey's team-leading eighth home run of the season to build a 4-0 lead.

Oakland (18-15, 9-2 HL) then scored three runs of its own in the top of the fourth inning, including Sarah Hartley's team-leading ninth long ball of the season to trim the Titans lead to one, 4-3.

Detroit then responded with a solo shot down the left field line from Jennifer Cottle – her second of the season – to build a 5-3 lead, before former Titan Sara Cupp hit 2-run homer to right center to tie the score at five after five innings.

Both teams then went scoreless over the next two innings before Muron hit what turned out to be the game-winning home run over the left field fence to give Oakland its only lead of the day.

The Titans put runners on the corners in the bottom of the eighth with two outs, but couldn't get them any closer as Oakland was able to hold on for the win.

The Titans will stay in the Motor City this week with non-conference games against Western Michigan (April 14), Toledo (April 15) and Buffalo (April 16) before visiting Horizon League foe Wright State for a three game weekend series.
