Mauser Hits 2-Run Homer in Loss to Western Michigan

DETROIT (4/14/2015) – The University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped its first game of a four game homestand against MAC schools on Tuesday with an 11-3 loss to Western Michigan (15-17) at Buysse Ballpark.

Freshman Sarah Mauser finished 2-for-3 at plate with a 2-run homer in the fourth inning to trim the Broncos lead to 3-2, but that was a close as the score would get as WMU responded with four runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game.

The home run for Mauser was her second of the season, while junior Katy Severson also hit her second long ball of the year in the fifth inning to make the score 7-3, before the Broncos closed the game with four runs in the seventh.

The Titans (3-33) will continue their non-conference homestand against MAC schools with a doubleheader against Toledo on Wednesday, before hosting Buffalo on Thursday. The first pitch against the Rockets is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Buysse Ballpark.
