DETROIT (7/28/2015) --
Former Titan standout and Horizon League Player of the Year Ray McCallum came back to the Motor City this past week. On the docket was a visit to family and friends as well as a trip back to Calihan Hall to see some of his former teammates and work out.

After an intensive training session, McCallum sat down with DetroitTitans.com to talk about his days as a Titan and his NBA career.

He is currently suiting up for the San Antonio Spurs after spending his first two seasons in the NBA with Sacramento. He is currently one of two former UDM student-athletes in the association joining Willie Green, the 2003 HL Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American, who is with the Orlando Magic.

McCallum played three years for the Titans before leaving to begin his professional career in 2013. He was the 36th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Kings, becoming just the 22nd Titan to be drafted.

As a player, he totaled 1,618 career points, good for eighth in school history, while his 451 assists rank him seventh.

The 2013 Horizon League Player of the Year and Lute Olson All-American helped Detroit to two-straight postseason appearances with a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and the NIT in 2013. He led a group of gritty Titans that came back from a first-half deficit to win the 2012 Horizon League Championship, 70-50, on the road at top-seeded Valparaiso.

As a junior, he led the Titans in points (18.7), assists (4.5) and steals (1.9) for the third-straight season as well as minutes played (36.6). He also led the Horizon League in scoring and steals, while finishing second in assists, assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2) and minutes played. McCallum was sixth in field goal percentage (49.1) and had at least one steal in all but six games, while scoring in double figures in all but five games on the season.

He ended his Titan career in 2013 as the Robert Calihan Team MVP and an All-Horizon League First Team selection. He was selected to the National All-Jesuit Team, the Lou Henson All-America Team as well as the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) All-District First Team. He was also a Preseason John Wooden Award Top 50 selection, Preseason James Naismith Award Watch List, Lindy's Sports Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year and a Bob Cousy Award Final 20 honoree.

In addition, he was one of 10 student-athletes to be named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team.
