DETROIT (7/8/2015) -- A total of five regular season races will help the teams get ready for the postseason as the University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's cross country schedule was officially announced on Wednesday.
The schedule includes the 29th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational as well as meets at Notre Dame and Louisville.
"This is our normal schedule that will allow us to run in a number of competitive races and keep a good training schedule," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Guy Murray '89. "We have three races in three-straight weeks to open things up and the schedule will allow us to prepare for the Horizon League Championship."
The men's team will be looking to win their third-straight Horizon League title, while the women are looking for their third championship in school history.
The Titans will begin the season in very familiar territory as they take part in the Golden Grizzly Open, hosted by Oakland on campus on Sept. 4. It is the 16th-straight season that UDM will start the year at an Oakland-run meet and the 12th-straight season that it will run on the Golden Grizzlies' campus.
The longest-running tradition in Titan athletics follows with the 29th Annual Running Fit- Detroit Titan Invitational, which will once again be held at Cass-Benton Park in Northville on Sept. 12. The meet will consist of Open 5K races for men and women, a 1.5-mile middle school race, a Tommy Titan Future Legends Kid's race and the main event of a 5K collegiate women's run and a 4-mile men's showing. The red, white and blue will then get ready for another long-standing tradition by taking part in Notre Dame's National Catholic Championships on Sept. 18.
After a couple of weeks off, Detroit will wrap up the regular season campaign by going back to Louisville, Kentucky, for the ninth-straight year by running in Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 3, and then end the season for the second-straight year in upstate New York at the Canisius Alumni Classic on Oct. 17.
The Horizon League Championship will take place on Halloween, Oct. 31, at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio.
The NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships is back at the University of Wisconsin on Nov. 13, while the NCAA Division I Championships is slated for Nov. 21 at EP "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
The men return a total of nine letters winners from their last two championships, including six who have earned All-Horizon League honors in graduate senior

The women bring back a total of seven letter winners, including five of their top seven runners at last year's HL meet in juniors

Taylor Smith.
