IWLCA Release
DETROIT (8/20/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team had a record-setting season on the field in 2015 and the program was recently honored for its work in the classroom receiving Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I Academic Honor Squad accolades for the 2015 season.
Every school with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earned Academic Squad honors. Detroit was one of 87 Division I schools in the nation to earn the academic team award, the sixth-straight season it has achieved the academic distinction.
Twenty-one (21) of the 25 members of the 2015 Detroit women's lacrosse squad earned a 3.0 grade point average or better during the 2014-15 academic school year, while thirteen (13) of the student-athletes earned a 3.5 GPA or better.
Kylie Birney was also named the 2014 Atlantic Sun Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Detroit joins four other teams from the Atlantic Sun to earn the team academic honor.
The Titans set a school record with 10 victories during the 2015 season. Detroit finished 10-8 overall for its first season over .500 in program history. UDM also won two games at the 2015 Atlantic Sun Championships to reach its third-straight conference title game.
The IWLCA is a membership-led nonprofit association representing the nation's intercollegiate women's lacrosse coaches within Division I, II & III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as well as the NAIA.
