DETROIT (8/27/2015) -- For the second-straight Friday, the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team hosts a Mid-American Conference school at Titan Field as the Titans welcome in Ohio University for a 3 p.m. contest. The game is set to be streamed live on ESPN3.com. Admission into the match is free.

Double-Overtime Season OpenerA double-overtime thriller opened the 2015 season for the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team, but the Titans gave up the golden goal early in second overtime to fall 3-2 to visiting University of Toledo at Titan Field on Friday, Aug. 21.
The Titans (0-1) started strong out of the gate in the season and home opener, scoring the first goal of the season just six minutes into the game. Senior forward
Sara Zawacki corralled a ball off a turnover and fired a shot into the top left corner of the net from about 12 yards out.
Freshman goalkeeper
Claudia Eustaquio, making her first career start, turned away four shots on goal in the first half to help stake the Titans to a 1-0 halftime lead. The Rockets (1-0) had a 6-2 advantage in shots in the first half, while Detroit scored on its only shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes.
Detroit made it 2-0 early in the second half, as junior
Anna Mindling received a terrific pass from classmate
Kristen Tobin in the box and knocked it into the back of the net from eight yards out. Mindling's first goal of the season came in the 49th minute.
Mindling finished the game with team-highs of three shots and three shots on goal. Senior defender
Alyssa Lotito added two shots for Detroit. Eustaquio played all 101 minutes in net for the Titans, turning away four shots in her first career game. Both squads had 11 shots during the match, while Detroit finished with the edge in corner kicks, 7-4.
Detroit Picked to Finish Third in the Horizon LeagueThe Titans were selected to finish third in the Horizon League women's soccer preseason poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Detroit, the runner-up in the league in 2014, received 60 points overall, just three points behind second-place Oakland (63 points). The defending league champion, Valparaiso, earned nine first-place votes and was the unanimous selection to win the conference again in 2015.
Rounding out the top five were Cleveland State at No. 4 with 48 points and league newcomer Northern Kentucky in the fifth spot with 43 points.
Home CookingThe Titans are 25-6-2 in home games since the beginning of the 2011 season. Detroit had a 16-match unbeaten streak (15-0-1) across three years snapped late last season in a 1-0 loss to Northern Kentucky. The Titans finished the 2014 season 4-2-1 at home.
Defensively, Detroit has recorded 15 total shutouts in its last 20 matches at Titan Field dating back to 2012.

In the Titans' second exhibition game on Aug. 16, Detroit dropped a 4-0 game to visiting Michigan State at Titan Field. Sara Zawacki are each entering their senior campaigns with the Titans. The group has combined to win 29 games over the past two seasons, reaching the Horizon League semifinals or better in each year with a trip to the conference championship game last year.
Lupenec Enters 23rd Season as Head CoachDetroit women's soccer head coach
Mike Lupenec enters his 23rd season at the helm of the program. He's the only coach in the history of the program. He reached 200 career victories last year in a 1-0 victory at home over Youngstown State and now has 204 career wins.
Lupenec has guided the Titans to five Horizon League championship games, earning the tournament title in 2004 as the squad made its only appearance in the NCAA Tournament that year. Detroit has reached the Horizon League semifinals each of the past five years under Lupenec, finishing with a .500 record or better in all five seasons. He holds a 79-53-13 record all-time in Horizon League matches.

Alyssa Lotito enters the 2015 campaign eighth all-time in assists with 15 -- all coming in the past two seasons. Lotito is two assists away from tying Titan Hall of Famer Mary Parker for seventh on the all-time career list at 17. She led the Horizon League with 11 assists in 2013 and had a team-high four assists in 2014. The 11 assists in 2013 were the most for a Detroit women's soccer player since 2004.
2014 Season RecapThe Titans reached the Horizon League Championship title game last season for the first time since 2006. Detroit earned seven shutouts during the 2014 season and allowed just 22 goals in 19 games. All five of its overtime victories came during the conference portion of the season. Riley was named to the All-Horizon League First Team along with defender

Up NextThe Titans don't have to travel far for their first home game of the season, visiting the University of Michigan on Sunday for a 7:30 p.m. contest in Ann Arbor. Detroit then returns home, hosting Bowling Green on Wednesday, Sept. 2 for a 3 p.m. match at Titan Field.
