DETROIT (9/25/15) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team heads to Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday night to take on Cleveland State. The Horizon League match is set to begin at 7 p.m. from Krenzler Field.

Scouting the TitansDetroit dropped three early road contests to powerhouses Michigan, Loyola Marymount and Cal State Northridge, but the Titans are trending upward with a 2-0-1 mark in the last three games. On the season, Detroit is 4-4-1 and is 1-0 in Horizon League play after a 5-0 throttling of Green Bay last week.
Through nine games, opponents hold the edge in goals (15-14), shots (132-80), shots on goal (61-43) and corner kicks (43-40). The Titans have fared much better at home, where they are 4-1-1, with advantages in goals scored (13-4), shots (70-52) and corner kicks (36-16).
Senior
Alyssa Lotito leads the attack with six points on two goals and a pair of assists, while
Anna Mindling,
Phylisha Drayton and
Sara Zawacki have each tallied five points on two goals and an assist apiece.
Carley Rice and
Molly Kane have complimented the offense with two goals apiece, while
Jennifer Borawski rounds out the top offensive performers with a goal and an assist.
Freshman
Claudia Eustaquio has taken control of the net for the Titans recently, making three straight starts. Eustaquio has done the most with her playing time, reeling off three consecutive clean sheets. In five starts, Eustaquio is 2-2-1 with a 1.31 goals against average and has made 24 saves with a 77.4 save percentage, to go with three shutouts.
Scouting the VikingsOn the opposite side of the pitch, Cleveland State opened the season with a tie and three straight wins, but has scuffled through a 1-4 stretch over their last five contests. The Vikings suffered a 2-0 setback at Kent State in their most recent action. Cleveland State's original conference-opener at UIC was postponed due to heavy rain, so Saturday night's match will be the Horizon League opener for the Vikings.
Through nine games, the Vikings hold advantages in goals (18-14), while opponents hold the edge in shots (122-107) and shots on goal (60-56).
Senior Allie Sieradzki leads the Viking offense with nine points on four goals and an assist, followed closely by junior Kaila Sargema with three goals and an assist. Senior Vicki Havas has three goals, all of which are game-winners, with a team-high 20 shots. Freshman McKenna Vento is tied for the Horizon League lead with four assists.
Junior goalkeeper Jamie Daniels has started all but one game in net for the Vikings and is 4-2-1 with a 1.60 goals against average and 76.3 save percentage, to go along with a pair of shutouts.
Titan Tidbits• Detroit boasts a balanced line-up capable of scoring with multiple players. Eight players have scored a goal for the Titans, with six players tallying two goals.
• The five-goal outburst against Green Bay was the most for the Titans in a Horizon League match since a 7-0 win over Cleveland State in 2006
• Kane has scored on a header in two of the last three games, with each goal coming off a free-kick assist from Lotito

Horizon League Defensive Player of the WeekFreshman
Claudia Eustaquio was named the Horizon League Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after her performance in the Titans' conference-opening win over Green Bay. It's the first Horizon League honor of her young career. The rookie posted a shutout in her first conference start after making three saves while facing seven total shots. Prior to the game against Detroit, Green Bay had scored 14 goals in its previous four contests. The shutout was Eustaquio's second straight, while she picked up her second consecutive win as well. She has since added another shutout.
All-Time SeriesDetroit owns a convincing 7-2-2 edge in the all-time series against Cleveland State. The Titans are 3-1-1 in their last five against the Vikings. Last fall, Borawski scored the golden goal in a 2-1 overtime
win for Detroit.
Record BooksSenior defender
Alyssa Lotito is tied for seventh all-time in assists with 17. Lotito has assisted in two straight games to tie Titan Hall of Famer Mary Parker. She led the Horizon League with 11 assists in 2013 and had a team-high four assists in 2014. The 11 assists in 2013 were the most for a Detroit women's soccer player since 2004.
