ROCHESTER, NY (11/14/2016) -- Former University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse defenseman
Chris Shevins '15 is continuing his lacrosse career as he has inked a contract with the National Lacrosse League's Rochester Knighthawks.
Shevins joins two other Titans on the team in former teammates
Jordan Houtby '13 and
Joel Matthews '12. He was afforded an opportunity to show off his ability as he garnered an invitation to the team's rookie camp.
"Chris is new to the game, but he is quick, fast and willing to learn," Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. "Those are three factors that general manager Curt Styres really, really likes."
Shevins was a four-year letter winner at Detroit Mercy from 2012-15 and was part of the Titans first-ever MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013.
He saw action in 55 games – with 30 starts - and graduated ranked sixth in school history with 29 caused turnovers, while also corralling 64 ground balls. As a senior, he started all 14 games on the year and tallied a career-best 16 caused turnovers and tied for fifth on the team with 25 ground balls as the Titans set a program record with eight wins on the year.
Shevins registered a career-high five ground balls at Monmouth as a junior and had a career-best three caused turnovers in the upset win against Ohio State as a senior.
A model student-athlete, he was a four-year member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and earned the Academic Excellence Award at the Annual Academic & Athletic Awards Dinner, given to student-athletes who have recorded at least a 3.0 GPA for every semester that they have participated in college athletics. He was also a four-year member of the MAAC Academic Honor Roll and was a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection.
