Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jenkins, Titans Shoot Past Vikings, 71-63

CLEVELAND, Ohio (2/4/2016) -- Junior Chris Jenkins knocked down a career high six 3-pointers and the Titans shot nearly 50 percent from the field and from three as the Titans upended the Cleveland State Vikings, 71-63, at the Wolstein Center on Thursday night.

Jenkins finished with a team-high 20 points. Senior Carlton Brundidge had 12 points and a team-high five assists and sophomore Paris Bass tallied seven points and a career-high 17 rebounds.

Detroit (11-11, 5-6 HL) led for most the game, but Cleveland State (7-17, 2-9 HL) came back to tie it up at 36-36 early in the second half. Jenkins then caught fire hitting back-to-back triples that help start a 15-2 run to give the Titans the lead for good.

Jenkins started the run by finding freshman Gerald Blackshear inside for a layup. Bass then connected on a basket and free throw and the Titans went ahead by five, 41-36, with 15:09 left. The next time down the floor, Brundidge got loose for a layup and it was a seven-point lead.

Brundidge then found Blackshear again and he slammed it in for a 45-38 advantage. Detroit kept up its great play on the defensive side and held Cleveland State scoreless the next two possessions and that is when Jenkins nailed two-straight triples for a 51-38 lead with 11:06 remaining.

The Titans eventually raised the margin to as many as 14, 63-49, with 5:38 left as Jenkins sank his career best sixth trifecta of the contest. UDM also led by 14 at 66-52 with 3:58 on the clock.

Sophomore Jaleel Hogan had 10 points on 5-of-6 from the field in just 13 minutes of action. Blackshear netted 10 points with four boards and senior Anton Wilson registered eight points and two rebounds.

The Titans shot 49 percent (24-of-49) overall and 10-of-21 from three (47.6%), including 52.0 percent from the field in the second half. UDM also won the battle of the boards, 39-27.

The defense limited Cleveland State to 42.4 percent shooting, but just 3-of-20 (15.0%) from behind the arc and 10-of-27 (37.0%) in the second stanza.

The first half started slow for both teams as the Titans and Vikings were a combined 2-of-15 from the field with five turnovers in the first six minutes. Wilson then twice gave Detroit a six-point lead connecting on treys to make it 8-2 and 12-6. Later on, Jenkins would sink two-straight 3-pointers to increase the lead to eight, 20-12, at the 7:41 mark.

The Titans would take a nine-point advantage, 29-20, with 5:05 on the clock as Brundidge nailed one from three, but CSU concluded the half on an 11-4 spurt to make it 33-31 at the break.

Detroit will look for three in a row on Saturday as the Titans visit Youngstown State. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m., and it will be part of another road doubleheader as the women face YSU at 4:30.
