DETROIT (3/10/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team hosts a pair of home games this weekend, welcoming VCU and Delaware State to Titan Field on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Detroit's game on Friday is set for a 2 p.m. start while Sunday's matinee begins at 11 a.m. ET. Admission into both games is
FREE.
The Titans (0-4) are looking for their first victory of the season, but have faced tough competition early. Detroit most recently fell at home to Marquette in the first game of the season from Titan Field. UDM is in the middle of a three-game homestand at Titan Field.
VCU (2-3) is in its first season as a women's lacrosse program. The Titans have a 3-0 record all-time against Delaware State, which has started the 2016 season with a 2-3 mark and back-to-back wins over Howard and Radford.

Titans Fall at Home to MarquetteThe University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team played in its second game in three days on Sunday, March 6, falling to visiting Marquette by a final of 14-5. It was the first game played at Titan Field this season.
Senior defender
Ally Shrader was active all day for the Titans (0-4), scooping up five ground balls and four draw controls. Freshman
Kaitlyn Wandelt posted two goals for the Titans, while senior
Kylie Birney, freshman
Lexie Kinmond and sophomore
Kelsi Pritchard all added goals for Detroit. Senior
Michaela Schwartz and Pritchard each had assists.
Freshman goalkeeper
Allison McDonough made nine saves in net for Detroit, while adding five ground balls. Wandelt also finished with four ground balls. Kinmond had two draw controls, while sophomore defender
Lauren Webley forced two caused turnovers.
Marquetted had the edge in shots, 31-15. Both teams had five draw controls in the first half and the Golden Eagles finished with the advantage for the game, 13-8. Detroit was 17-for-25 in clears during the contest.
All-Time SeriesThe Titans and VCU are meeting for the first time in women's lacrosse. VCU is in its first year as a Division I program in 2016. Detroit holds a 3-0 advantage over Delaware State, winning all three contest by 10 or more goals. Last year, the Titans picked up a 22-6 road triumph over Delaware State, as 11 different players found the back of the net. Current members

Freshman StandoutsThe Titans' leading goal scorers four games into the season are a pair of freshmen --
Morgan Girardi and
Kaitlyn Wandelt. Girardi has two hat tricks through four games and leads the Titans with nine goals. Wandelt has three multiple-goal games and is second on the squad with eight markers. Both players have 10 points in four contests. Detroit freshmen have accounted for 22 of the 31 goals this season with
Lexie Kinmond also netting five in four games in 2016. Senior
Kylie Birney is tied for third with Kinmond with five goals.
In goal, rookie netminder
Allison McDonough has started all four games for the Titans, recording two-straight 11-save games against Oregon and Cincinnati. She is averaging 9.0 saves per game and has seen her save percentage increase after each contest as it sits at 35.3.
Senior LeadershipSeniors
Kylie Birney and
Ally Shrader have been named team captains for the 2016 season. Birney, the 2015 Atlantic Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year, is a three-time co-captain, while its the first season that Shrader has been named a co-captain. Birney is a three-year starter who ranks sixth all-time in goals (86) in Detroit women's lacrosse history. She is a two-time First Team All-Atlantic Sun honoree at midfield. Shrader has been a staple on the back line for Detroit for the past three years and has made 44 career starts in the red, white and blue. She leads the Titans in ground balls in 2016 with 12 through four games.
Six Games Set for ESPN3The Titans are set to broadcast six games on ESPN3 during the 2016 season. It's the first season of ESPN3 on Titan Field as Detroit will broadcast 10 games total between men's and women's lacrosse. The first ESPN3 stream is set for Robert Morris on March 25 and will be followed by all five Atlantic Sun home games on Titan Field. Detroit opens the A-Sun schedule at home against Central Michigan on March 30 and wraps up the season with Senior Day against Howard on May 1.
Up NextDetroit returns to the road next week, visiting Radford on Friday, March 18 in Radford, Va. for a 2 p.m. ET contest. Detroit's next home game is Friday, March 25 against Robert Morris from Titan Field. The 1 p.m. game is the first ESPN3 contest of the year at home.
