Wandelt Earns Second Atlantic Sun Player of the Week Honor
For the second time this season, freshman midfielder
Kaitlyn Wandelt was selected as the Atlantic Sun Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week on April 5.
Wandelt joined former Titan standout Zaynib Hamze as the only Detroit player to earn the Atlantic Sun's Player of the Week accolade twice in the same season. Detroit earned an A-Sun weekly award for three-straight weeks as Wandelt was named Player of the Week on March 22 and classmate
Allison McDonough was the recipient of the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week on March 29.
Wandelt helped lead the Titans to a 2-0 week with victories over Central Michigan and Mount St. Mary's. The midfielder filled up the stat sheet in Detroit's 13-8 win over CMU with five goals, six draw controls, four caused turnovers and four ground balls and converted on four free-position goals against the Chippewas. She added four goals and one assist, while adding four draw controls against Mount St. Mary's.
Birney Reaches 100 Goal Plateau
Senior midfielder
Kylie Birney scored her 100th collegiate goal in Detroit's 10-9 win over Mount St. Mary's on April 3. She became the fourth Detroit women's lacrosse player to reach the century mark when she gets to 100 career markers and first since Corina Mahorn in 2012. Birney is 10 goals shy of Mahorn (110 career goals) on the list. Emily Boissonneault holds the all-time school record for goals with 242.
Birney is fourth on the squad with 18 goals this season and led the Titans in goals last season with 38 markers and is a two-time All-Atlantic Sun First Team honoree. The three-year co-captain and 2015 Atlantic Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year has 15 career hat tricks.
In the Record Books
Wandelt is just nine draw controls shy of the single-season record of 52, held by former Titan standout Zaynib Hamze and set in 2013. Wandelt's 21 caused turnovers is also in the top 10 in single-season history. The record for CT in one season is 46 by Emily Boissonneault in 2010. Wandelt's 10 free position goals is also in the top 10. The single-season record is 17 by Boissonneault in 2012.
Lexie Kinmond's 11 helpers is tied for eighth on the all-time list.
Tessa Keuler's 33 assists last season is the all-time record for a single-season.
Freshman Standouts
