Ian Samuelson Named Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach

DETROIT (7/12/2016) -- University of Detroit Mercy Director of Strength and Conditioning Nick Wilson has announced the hiring of Ian Samuelson as an assistant strength & conditioning coach.

"Ian has a great background working with a couple of the best strength and conditioning departments in the country," said Wilson. "His knowledge and experience will be an asset to all of our student-athletes here at Detroit Mercy."

Samuelson is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) since 2015 and is also a USA Weightlifting Stage I Performance coach.

He spent the past year as an intern working with the University of Michigan strength and conditioning department. He started in the summer of 2015 as an intern with the football program before moving over and working with the Olympic sports since January.

With the football program, he assisted with the day-to-day operations of the summer off-season and in-season training programs. He then assisted with the implementation of strength and conditioning programming for over 20 varsity sports for the Wolverines.

During his time there, he was also a personal trainer at the Downtown Ann Arbor YMCA.

Before arriving in Ann Arbor, he served as an intern with the Vanderbilt football strength and conditioning staff and was also a football strength and conditioning intern at his alma mater Ball State.

He graduated from Ball State in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
