DETROIT (8/12/2016) --Â Longtime Titan and former University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse standout
Megan Callahan '13 will help lead the program she once played for as she has been announced as the new assistant women's lacrosse coach at her alma mater.
Callahan joins new head coach
Laurie Merian's coaching staff as the Titan women's lacrosse team enters their ninth season as a program.
"Megan is going to be a great addition to our coaching staff," Merian said. "As a true Titan she knows our conference and what it takes to be successful against our opponents. She is 100 percent dedicated to this program and brings an enormous amount of energy that carries over to our players.
"As a former student-athlete and Student-Athlete Welfare Assistant here at Detroit Mercy, Megan is also well respected throughout our entire athletic department. With her competitive nature and passion for coaching, I believe she is that missing puzzle piece we finally found!"
Callahan has spent the last seven years as a Titan student-athlete or staff member in the athletic department. Callahan has served as the Student-Athlete Welfare Assistant for the past three years within the University of Detroit Mercy. She spent the last three seasons as the varsity girls lacrosse coach at nearby West Bloomfield High School.

Laurie Merian and for my alma mater. This program has had so much success in the past couple of years and I can't wait to see it continue to grow and get better!"
A midfielder for the Titans from 2010-13, Callahan was an integral part of several Titan teams. She started all 73 games during her career which is second all-time in program history. As a senior captain, Callahan tallied 17 goals and a career-best 45 draw controls for Detroit Mercy. She totaled 87 draw controls during her Titan career, which ranks sixth all-time. She received the Reverand Norbert Huetter Award as a senior in 2013 and was also the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
During her time as a Student-Athlete Welfare Assistant, Callahan assisted with the monitoring and documentation of all Titan student-athletes profiles. She aided coaches with the ACS recruiting program and supervised study tables, tutoring sessions as well as SAAC, among other duties.
While the leader of the lacrosse program at West Bloomfield High School, Callahan mentored Audrey Shaw, who is currently playing collegiate lacrosse at Robert Morris University in Chicago. She has also been a coach at All-American Lacrosse since November 2013, instructing young lacrosse athletes ranging in age from 4-12.
Callahan, a native of Lake Worth, Florida, graduated twice from the University of Detroit Mercy, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in May 2014 and a Master of Arts in Education Administration in June 2016.
