Lendzion Tallies Top-10 Effort At John Dallio Memorial

LEMONT, Ill. (9/20/2016) -- Senior Spencer Lendzion was steady from start to finish ending in the top 10 as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team wrapped up play at the John Dallio Memorial on Tuesday. 

Lendzion tied for ninth with a 226 (76, 75, 75) ending the event with a pair of 3-over 75's. It was his second career top-10 finish with his other coming as a freshman at the 2014 Horizon League Championship when he claimed third. 

Freshman Scott Sparks totaled a 231 (79, 74, 78) sharing 24th place, while senior Kyle Gaines ended in a tie for 40th shooting a 237 (82, 77, 78). 

As a team, Detroit Mercy registered a 927 (312, 306, 309) score for eighth place. 

The Titans will be back on the links in two weeks when they compete in the CSU Invitational from Oct. 3-4.

Here is a recap of the Titans at the John Dallio Memorial:
  • Senior Spencer Lendzion shot a season-low 226 (76, 75, 75) for a share of ninth place. His other career top-10 finish came as a freshman at the 2014 Horizon League Championship when he claimed third with a 221 (71, 74, 76), earning All-Horizon League status.
  • He played consistent golf throughout the 54 holes finishing with 29 pars, eighth birdies and an eagle. His eagle came in round one when his third shot on the Par 5, 15th hole trickled in. 
  • Lendzion led the team in Par 3 and Par 5 scoring averages, tied for fourth in the field with a +2, 3.17 mark on the course's Par 3's.
  • Scott Sparks was one of the top performers for the third-straight tournament as he posted a 231 (79, 74, 78) tying for 24th place.
  • His 2-over 74 in round two was the lowest round by the Titans in the two-day event. 
  • He led the team with 34 pars to go with four birdies. 
  • Sparks also tied for seventh in the competition with a +3, 3.25 average on the Par 3's 
  • Senior Kyle Gaines recorded 30 pars and four birdies in the 54 holes.
  • Senior David Thompson made his season debut and got off to a fast start with birdies on his first three holes. He would end the event with a team-high 10 birdies, tied for the third-most in the tournament. 
  • As a team, the Titans played the Par 3's extremely well registering a 3.50 average, third lowest in the 13-team field.

"Not our best stuff this week. We struggled as a team off the tee all three rounds, and this course is very penal off the fairways."

"I am proud of Spencer this week! No one works harder, and it's nice to see him kick start his senior year with a top-10 finish."
