DETROIT (11/12/2017) -- Calihan Hall will be filled with local area schools and boisterous kids Monday morning for the third annual Field Trip Day with the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball squad hosting Bowling Green for an 11 a.m. tip.
It's the home opener for the Titans (0-1) and also the first of two doubleheaders with the men's squad during the 2017-18 season. Admission into the women's basketball contest is
FREE for all fans. Last season, Detroit Mercy had more than 3,000 kids and fans for its second Field Trip Day and are expecting an even bigger turnout for Monday's contest.

Senior forward
Brianne Cohen notched the 17th, 20-point game of her Titan career in Detroit Mercy's season-opening loss to on the road at Miami (Ohio), 91-64. Junior guard
Brittney Jackson added 10 points, while sophomores
Anja Marinkovic and
Ashley Miller each scored eight points. Miller's eight points were a career best and she added five rebounds in 14 minutes.
Three Titans made their collegiate debuts in the contest -- with
Kayla Brown and
Lexey Tobel each starting for Detroit Mercy and
Aiora Rivas Preciado seeing time in the fourth quarter. The Titans' meeting with Miami was the first of six with the Mid-American Conference during the non-conference portion of the season.
Scouting Bowling Green
The Falcons opened the 2017-18 season with a 77-60 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 10. BGSU also earned a 92-62 win over Seton Hall in exhibition play earlier in the preseason.
Junior guard Carly Santoro, who led the team in scoring last year at 12.3 ppg, had 30 points and 10 rebounds in the opener for the Falcons. Senior Haley Puk added 11 points. Bowling Green scored 33 points in the second quarter after trailing 15-10 after the first stanza. BGSU held Eastern Kentucky to just 25 second-half points.

The Titans are 10-13 in 23 career matchups with Bowling Green. The last time the two teams played each other was in Calihan Hall during the 2011-12 season.
Detroit Mercy dropped a 57-49 contest in the last meeting on Nov. 22, 2011 and haven't won over the Falcons in the past seven games. The Titans are 6-6 at home against BGSU and last picked up a win on Nov. 20, 2001 by a 67-62 margin.
Field Trip Day
The Titans are playing in their third consecutive Field Trip Day game from Calihan Hall. Detroit Mercy dropped a nail-biting 55-54 contest to George Mason in last year's Field Trip Day on Nov. 30, 2016 in front of 3,117 fans. It was the largest crowd for the Titans at Calihan Hall since the 2003-04 season.
The Titans are expecting an even bigger crowd for the 2017-18 version of Field Trip Day. Top six announced crowds for a women's basketball contest at Calihan Hall:

Titans Picked Fifth in Preseason Poll
Detroit Mercy was picked to finish fifth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, voted on by the league's head coaches, Sports Information Directors and members of the media. The Titans were just three votes out of fourth and 13 back of third. The defending league champions Green Bay, earned 21 of the 25 first-place votes and was picked to finish first.
