INDIANAPOLIS (2/13/2017) -- For the third time this season and the second-straight week, University of Detroit Mercy guard
Anja Marinkovic has been selected as the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Marinkovic tallied her third-straight double-digit scoring effort in Saturday's 71-61 victory over Oakland, scoring 11 points off the bench. She shot 4-of-11 from the floor, sank both free throws and added a 3-pointer. She also had one rebound, one assist and recorded her first career block in the triumph.
It was the second-straight week that she has earned the honor from the Horizon League office after totaling 13.5 points per game and making 7-of-8 triple attempts during a 2-0 week to receive the award on Feb. 6. She also picked up the accolade on Dec. 5 after scoring a season-high 29 points at Minnesota.
On the season, Marinkovic has played in all 24 games for the 14-10 Titans and has eight double-figure scoring efforts. She ranks first on the Titans with a 90-percent free throw percentage (36-for-40) and is second with 38 treys on the year. Marinkovic is scoring 8.3 points per game, which is second among Horizon League freshmen. She leads all HL freshmen and ranks 11th in the league at 1.6 triples made per game.
The Titans (10-3 Horizon League) return to the court this weekend with a road trip Chicago, playing UIC on Thursday before heading to Indiana for a Saturday afternoon contest at Valparaiso.
