DETROIT (4/9/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy softball team earned another series win after defeating Northern Kentucky, 10-5, in Sunday morning Horizon League action from Buysse Ballpark.
The Titans unleashed 13 hits on the day as five players recorded multiple hits in the game. Junior
Savvy Ferstle extended her hitting streak to 10 after going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the offense.

Laura Villagrana hit her first career home run to lead off the bottom of the first and finished the day 2-for-5 with two RBI. Freshman
Ellie Boteler went 2-for-4 with a two-run double, sophomore
Kara Vitale went 2-for-3 with a run and senior
Cheyenne Willeford picked up two hits in four at-bats to cap the offensive leaders.

Liz Murphy earned her seventh win of the year after allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits in a strong six innings of work.
The Titans took control of the game right away, ripping off five hits in a four-run first inning that put Detroit Mercy ahead, 4-0. Villagrana led off with a homer to straightaway center and the Titans tacked on three more with two outs.
A pair of errors in the third allowed Northern Kentucky to extend the inning and push three runs across, but the Titan defense turned a double play to stay ahead at 4-3.
Detroit Mercy responded right away with three runs in the bottom of the third to push the lead to 7-3, highlighted by a two-run double from Boteler.
The Titans added runs in the final three innings of the game and NKU scored a pair as Detroit Mercy pulled away for the 10-5 win.
The win gives the Titans a 2-1 series win after the teams split the series opening doubleheader on Saturday. The series win is Detroit Mercy's second in three tries of Horizon League action and improves their conference mark to 5-4.
Detroit Mercy heads to Indiana on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with Notre Dame before returning to Horizon League play next weekend. The Irish will host the Titans for a 5:30 p.m. first pitch from South Bend, Ind.
