DETROIT (10/18/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team was picked to finish ninth in the 2018-18 Horizon League Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, which was released on Thursday.
The Titans received 65 points in the preseason poll. Green Bay, the reigning Horizon League champions, earned 28 of the 29 first-place votes and were picked to finish first with 286 points. IUPUI, Wright State, Youngstown State and Milwaukee rounded out the top-five in the poll.
The poll and Preseason All-League Teams are voted on by the league's head coaches, media members and Sports Information Directors from each Horizon League institution. Head coaches aren't allowed to vote for their own players for the preseason squads.
The red, white and blue enter its fourth season under head coach
Bernard Scott. Detroit Mercy is 25-29 in Horizon League play under coach Scott and are looking to improve upon last season's ninth-place finish in the league.
Detroit Mercy has five newcomers to an 11-member squad in 2018-19 and are a relatively young team with two seniors in guards
Brittney Jackson and
Lola Ristovski. Five letter-winners returning overall, including
Ashley Miller,
Zoey Oatis and
Lexey Tobel.
