WESTLAKE, Mich. (10/9/2018) -- The rookies were once again the top performers on the course for the Titans as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team wrapped up its fourth fall event in the CSU Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Tuesday.

The Titans finished ninth totaling an 898 (300-298-300) in the 54-hole event, held on the Par 71, 7,022-yard Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio. 

Freshmen James Hill and Anthony Occhiuto just missed the top 20, tying for 21st with a 222, while freshman Brendan O'Rourke shared 34th with a 224, including the best score for the Titans with a 1-under 70 on the final 18. 

Detroit Mercy will return to action next week, Oct. 15-16, when the red, white and blue host the Titans Motown Collegiate on the Par 71, 7,042-yard Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland.  Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Here is a recap of the action at the CSU Tom Tontimonia Invitational:

• Once again, the Titans lowered their team score from a year ago as they shaved 28 shots off last year's 926
• Hill and Occhiuto each carded a 1-over 72 as Hill posted it in round one and Occhiuto in round two
• Occhiuto and Hill played the course's par 5's to a 2-under, 4.68 average, tied for eighth in the event, while Occhiuto also played the par 3's to a 1-over, 3.12 average, 12th in the field
• O'Rourke had four birdies and 12 pars in his final round and topped the team with six overall, tied for 10th in the competition
• O'Rourke was dominant on the par 4's tallying a 2-under, 3.91 average, third lowest in the field
• Hill led the team with 24 pars

• "Things didn't quite go our way on the course this week. There were a lot of missed opportunities and there are areas that we will be looking to improve the rest of this week before our home tournament."
• "James and Anthony had a decent showing on a tough course and finished just outside of the top 20. Both grinded out rounds without their 'A' games."
• "Brendan Battled back really well today to post another red number in his fall season."
