Women's Basketball Hosts Omaha in Fourth Annual Field Trip Day Game

DETROIT (11/28/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team is back home this week, hosting Omaha for its fourth annual Field Trip Day game from Calihan Hall on Thursday. The opening tip is set for 11 a.m. and admission into the contest is free. The game may also be seen live via ESPN-Plus.

Detroit Mercy (2-4) is coming off a road victory at Manhattan on Saturday and is playing Omaha for the first time in women's basketball. The Titans have hosted a Field Trip Day game in all four years under head coach Bernard Scott, averaging just under 3,000 fans for the first three games with a high of 4,127 last season from Calihan Hall.

• The red, white and blue are hosting its fourth annual Field Trip Day game, hosting Omaha. Detroit Mercy has averaged 2,955 fans in the previous three years of Field Trip Day and hosted 4,127 fans during last year's contest.

• Detroit Mercy earned a 58-56 road victory at Manhattan on Saturday, coming from 11 points down in the first quarter and out-scoring the host Jaspers 50-37 after the opening stanza.

• The Titans have shot 40-percent or better in each of the past three contests -- shooting a season-high 47.6 percent at Manhattan on Saturday. Detroit Mercy shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from downtown against the Jaspers.

Last Time Out
The Titans rallied from 11 points down after the first quarter, using a 7-0 fourth-quarter run to earn a 58-56 victory on the road at Manhattan on Saturday.

Detroit Mercy shot a season-high 47 percent in the win and out-scored the Jaspers, 50-37 in the final three stanzas. The Titans had three players in double figures in Lexey Tobel (19 points), Zoey Oatis (15 points) and Jess Bicknell (12 points). Tobel was instrumental during a second quarter run, scoring 12 of Detroit Mercy's 22 points, including hitting a pair of triples.

Detroit Mercy trailed by five in the fourth quarter, but went on a 7-0 run to take a 53-51 lead. After Manhattan regained the lead, Oatis scored a lay-up on the fast break as Detroit Mercy went ahead for good with 2:07 to play. The Titans sank 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to help seal the victory.

Field Trip Day
The Titans are set to host their fourth annual Field Trip Day from Calihan Hall on Thursday, Nov. 29. Detroit Mercy has seen an increase in attendance in each season since the first game against UIC on Feb. 11, 2015. The Titans had the third-largest crowd for a women's basketball game in school history with last season's attendance of 4,127.

Scouting Omaha
Omaha is 2-3 on the season and coming off a 57-50 road victory over Florida A&M in Miami on Sunday. The Mavericks also have a victory against USC Upstate and setbacks against Kansas State, CSUN and Campbell.

Omaha freshman center Elena Pilakouta leads the Mavericks in scoring at 10.0 points per game. Pilakouta also has a team-best 13 assists. Sophomore guard Claire Killian is second in scoring at 9.6 points per game and has team-highs with nine 3-pointers and 10 steals. Freshman forward Josie Filer leads the team in rebounding with 8.8 caroms per game.

The Mavericks are pulling down 40.4 boards per game and score at a 60.6 points per game clip. Omaha is shooting 67.4 percent from the free throw line.

Detroit Mercy returns to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 5, traveling to in-state foe Eastern Michigan for a 7 p.m. contest from the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich. The game may be seen live via ESPN-Plus for a monthly subscription fee. The Titans' next home game is Sunday, Dec. 9 against Western Michigan from Calihan Hall.
