Detroit Mercy 5 - Morgan State 2
The Titans jumped out to an early lead, 1-0, in the top of the first inning when
Courtney Gilbert's single through the left side advanced Manno to third base. Manno would then score on an error by the left fielder, giving the Titans the 1-0 lead.
In the third, Pollock singled to left field driving in Yager and giving the red, white and blue a 2-1 advantage.Â
Morgan State would tie the score at 2-2 in the fourth, but the Titans could not be silenced. In the top of the seventh inning, Detroit Mercy tacked on three more runs taking advantage of a couple of Bears miscues.Â
Yager would single to left to knock in
Maddy Scarsella. Yager later scored on an error and Manno came across on a passed ball for a 5-2 lead.Â
Liz Murphy went the distance in the circle striking out four and allowing just four hits. She was also helped out by some defense, especially by Manno, who threw out two runners attempting to steal third in the game.Â
Detroit Mercy 9 - Fairleigh Dickinson 8
The second game was an absolute barn burner between the Titans and the Knights.
The red, white and blue would again fall behind to start the game. However, that would not last for long as Manno would steal home, tying the game at one in the bottom of the first.Â
The Titans would face another deficit at 2-1, before Yager singled to left field, driving in
Kara Vitale. Yager would then steal home, giving the Titans their first lead of the game, 3-2, in the second.Â
Detroit Mercy fell behind 5-3, but again, would not stay down very long as they answered with a pair of runs in the third frame. Ferstle singled to right field driving in Gilbert and Vitale's sacrifice bunt scored Ferstle, tying the game at 5-5.
In the bottom of the fourth, Yager would score on a throwing error, giving the Titans the lead at 6-5.
The Knights would answer right back with two runs in the top of the fifth, reclaiming the lead, 7-6.
Headed into the bottom of the seventh, the Titans trailed by one. Already living up to her title of captain, Ferstle stepped up to the plate and drove one to right field for an inside the park home run that tied the game at 7-7.
With the use of the international tiebreaker, FDU reclaimed the lead at 8-7 in the eighth, but the Titans fought back. Â
Kori Keyes went to sacrifice the Titan tiebreaker runner to third but ended up reaching first on the bunt. Game one hero Yager then lifted a ball to center field for the sacrifice fly, tying the game at 8-8.Â
With one out and Keyes on second, Manno stepped up to the plate and drilled a double to center field for the game-winning hit as Keyes came around to score for the 9-8 win.
Ashley Mauser started for the Titans and went 4 2/3 scattering nine hits and giving up seven runs - just two earned.
Cami Sinclair got the win in relief - her first collegiate victory - going 3 1/3 striking out four and allowing just one hit with two walks.Â
