MEMPHIS, Tenn. (2/19/2018) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's fencer
Tahj Butler recently competed at the 2018 Junior Olympic National Championship, held in Memphis over this past weekend. Butler fenced in the junior men's epee competition on Saturday.
In pool play, Butler finished 3-3 overall, earning a -1 indicator (23 touches scored, 24 touches received). He was seeded 109th out of more than 300 fencers overall entering the tournament.
Following pool play, Butler entered the direct elimination portion of the competition 166th and after a bye, he fell to 90th-ranked Matthew Zhang by a 15-11 margin. Overall, he finished in a tie-for-176th.
