Tobel Earns Horizon League All-Freshman Team Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (2/28/2018) -- University of Detroit Mercy freshman Lexey Tobel (Hartland, Mich.) was voted to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team with the league office announcing the postseason honors Wednesday morning.

Tobel leads all Horizon League freshmen in 3-pointers made (44) following the regular season and ranks fifth among HL freshmen in scoring at 8.0 points per game. Tobel is 15th overall in the league in 3-pointers made per game (1.5) and was among the league leaders all season in free-throw percentage.

Tobel, who has played in all 29 games, starting 15 during her freshman season, leads the Titans with an 86.9 free-throw percentage (53-for-61), just recently putting together a stretch of 22-straight free throws made during the Horizon League season. She went 11-for-11 from the line earlier this season, which is the second-most makes without a miss from the free throw line in a single game this season in the league.

The former Hartland High School standout became the first Titan freshmen since the 2014-15 season to record more than 200 points and 100 rebounds in their first season. Her 44 3-pointers made are also fourth in Detroit Mercy freshmen history and the most since 1998-99.

Tobel has 10 double-figure scoring efforts in 2017-18, scoring a season-best 19 points against Eastern Michigan, going 11-for-11 from the free throw line during that game. She ranks second on the team in rebounding (4.0 per game) and fourth in both blocks (14) and steals (13). Tobel has also played the third-most minutes of any Titan, totaling 759 during her freshman year.

She was the Horizon League Freshman of the Week following the second week of the regular season, when she scored 16 points, hitting five 3-pointers in her home debut from Calihan Hall.

It's the second-straight season that Detroit Mercy has put a player on the Horizon League All-Freshman Team after guard Anja Marinkovic earned the honor following the 2016-17 campaign.
