Titans Wrap Up First Day Of Action From Clermont

CLERMONT, Fla. (2/9/18) -- The University of Detroit Mercy softball team wrapped up their first day of action from the National Training Center down in Clermont, Fla. on Friday evening.

The Titans dropped both games on opening day, first to Toledo and second to Chattanooga.

The red, white and blue were unable to get their bats going against the Rockets in the first game, but quickly figured it out in the second game, collecting 11 hits.

The Titans senior captain, Savvy Ferstle, had a great outing, earning three hits, four RBI and a double. Also hitting well for the Titans were Courtney Gilbert, who had two hits and one run scored, Jordan Manno with one hit, one RBI and two runs scored and Sydney Pollock with one run, one hit and one RBI.

Toledo 3 - Detroit Mercy 0
The Titans struggled to get going offensively in their first game of the season as they suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Rockets.

Kara Vitale was able to get her bat going, collecting a single, but the Titans could not capitalize.

Chattanooga 10 - Detroit Mercy 7
The Titans had a short memory after the game against Toledo, as they came out swinging in the second game, collecting 11 hits, which turned into seven runs.

They would fall behind early, 4-0, before sparking a rally. Kori Keyes would collect her first career hit as a Titan, which would load the bases for Manno to drive in a run. After that, Ferstle would drive one into the gap in right center field, brining in three and tying the game at four.

The Titans would then fall behind 6-4, but not for long. Pollock would steal home, cutting the deficit to only one, 6-5.

Next, the Titans would see themselves facing an 8-5 deficit, but remained unphased. They rallied for another two runs, courtesy of Ferstle's single to left field and Pollock's grounder to seond base, which both drove in runs, again cutting the deficit to only one.

Ultimately, the rally of the Titans would come up short, as they fell by a score of 10-7 to Chattanooga.

ON DECK
The Titans are back in action on day two of the tournament tomorrow. Detroit Mercy will face Morgan State at 4:00 p.m. and Fairleigh Dickinson at 6:30 p.m.
