DETROIT (3/16/2018) -- The tough non-conference schedule is all about getting ready for the MAAC and that will start this weekend as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team welcomes Marist to Titan Field on Saturday, March 17.
Game time is set for Noon and is part of a lacrosse doubleheader as the women battle Duquesne at 3:00 p.m.
Fans are reminded that the contest will feature live stats, but will not have ESPN3.
Detroit Mercy is 2-5 on the season, but have played some stiff competition in three ranked opponents and four teams that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago, including national runner-up Ohio State.
The Titans are led offensively by junior
Matthew Vangalen's 14 points on six goals and a team-high eight assists. Senior
Alec Gilhooly and freshman
Brett Erskine are second on the team with 10 points on seven goals and three assists, while freshman
Brennan Kamish has eight markers.
Defensively, senior
Charlie Hayes leads the defense with 19 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls, while redshirt freshman goalie
Logan Shamblin has a 9.62 goals against average and a .528 save percentage.
Marist is also off to a slow start at 1-7, but two of its defeats have come to ranked programs in Maryland and Georgetown.
The Titans are 4-7 all-time against the Red Foxes, but these two conference rivals have played some close games with seven contests decided by one goal.
