MACON, Ga. (3/6/18) -- The University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped a close game to the Mercer Bears on Tuesday night.

The Titans got a great performance in the circle as Ashley Mauser went five innings, scattering four hits, walking three and striking out a career-high seven, all while allowing just one unearned run.

Jordan Manno had a pair of hits at the plate and Courtney Gilbert, and Skylar Fairchild each had a hit on the night as well. Kara Vitale would single into right field with two outs in the top of the seventh trying to spark a late rally, but the Titans could not complete the comeback.

The game was scoreless for a large portion until Mercer finally broke through in the fifth inning, when the Bears scored a run on a fielder's choice, giving them a 1-0 lead.

Mercer would keep the pressure on heavy, adding another two in the bottom of the sixth and extending its lead to 3-0.

The red, white and blue were able to find five hits on the night, but unable to convert on any chances.
