Wandelt Earns Detroit Mercy's Fifth Weekly Honor of 2018
Detroit Mercy redshirt sophomore Kaitlyn Wandelt was been named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Wandelt helped propel the Titans to a 2-0 weekend, scoring a league-best 13 goals. Wandelt, who also received the Offensive Player of the Week honor on March 20 and was the February Offensive Athlete of the Month, scored a career-high tying seven goals against Wofford and six more in a key SoCon win over Furman.

The Sayville, New York, native added six ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers during the weekend and scored on 13 of her 15 shots on goal (88 percent). Wandelt notched her fifth and sixth games of five or more goals over the weekend. On the season, she leads the SoCon in six different statistical categories topping the Southern Conference in total goals (49), goals per game (3.50), total points (65), points per game (4.64) and shots per game (7.07). She also ranks fourth in the conference in draw controls per game (4.07).

Scouting Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers are 7-7 overall on the season and 3-1 in the ASUN Conference. Coastal Carolina has ASUN victories over Howard, Stetson and Kennesaw State and fell narrowly to Jacksonville at home, 13-11. Most recently, the Chanticleers won over SoCon member Mercer by a 17-7 margin on Sunday, April 15 in Macon. CCU is 2-3 at home this season.

Nine different players on the team have better than 10 goals on the season with the team just 10 goals from 200 goals overall. Haley Alexander leads the squad with 34 goals and 48 points. Haley Kryger adds 28 goals and 42 points, while Sophie Crowther has 26 goals and a team-best 47 draw controls. Five different players have better than 20 draw controls, led by Crowther's 47. Haley Barrett has started all 14 games in net for the Chanticleers and holds a 46.4 save percentage and 11.34 goals against average, turning away 121 total shots.

All-Time Series
The Titans and Chanticleers have met just one time previously, last season when both squads were members of the ASUN Conference. Coastal Carolina earned a 12-6 win in Detroit. The two sides combined for just four goals in the first half as Coastal Carolina scored the first three to take a 3-1 lead at the break. Kelsi Pritchard scored three-straight goals to open the second half and give Detroit Mercy a 4-3 lead, but the Chanticleers would use a run in the second half to earn the advantage and take the game.

New Year, New League
The Titans are competing out of a new conference for the 2018 season with the Titans joining the Southern Conference (SoCon) for the inaugural season of women's lacrosse in the league. It's the third conference for Detroit Mercy after stints with the National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) from 2010-12 and the ASUN Conference (2013-17).

The Titans made four-straight ASUN Championship games from 2013-16 and was the first time in ASUN history to defeat Jacksonville, knocking them off in the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament in 2016. The SoCon conference this season is comprised of Central Michigan, Delaware State, Furman, Mercer, Wofford and the Titans. Wofford is competing in its first season of women's lacrosse.

Detroit Mercy is the elder statesmen in the league, entering its 10th season. The Titans were picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches poll, behind Furman, Mercer and Central Michigan.

Up Next
Detroit Mercy returns to the field Sunday at 12 p.m. for a non-conference game at Old Dominion. The Titans then host their final home game of the season on Saturday, April 28 for Senior Day against SoCon rival Central Michigan. The game is a big one in the regular season picture. A win by the Titans would grant them the No. 1 seed and give them a share of the regular-season title.
