INDIANAPOLIS (9/10/2018) -- After going undefeated last week with a couple of key saves in overtime, University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer senior goalkeeper
Marina Manzo was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week.
It is the third time in her career that she has earned the distinction.Â
Manzo went 1-0-1 with a win in overtime at Toledo and a draw against Purdue Fort Wayne, while posting 12 saves.
She had eight saves, including two in overtime, and helped set up freshman
Julie Ann Piechocki's game-winning goal at Toledo with a long goal kick to center field that started two quick passes en route to the golden goal. She then made four saves against Purdue Fort Wayne and another two came in the extra sessions, including one with just under three minutes to go to turn away a potential Mastodons' win.
On the year, she leads the Horizon League and is seventh in the nation with 50 total saves, while topping the league and ranking 17th in the conference with 7.14 saves per game.Â
Manzo and the Titans return to action on Thursday as they open HL play at UIC.Â
