@DetroitMBB Hosts Cleveland State On Thursday On Military Appreciation Night

DETROIT  (1/28/2019) -- The second half of the conference season will get underway at home this week as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team welcomes Cleveland State to Calihan Hall on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and locally on WADL-38 with Jeremy Otto and Earl Cureton on the call as well as over the airwaves on 910 AM Superstation as the Voice of the Titans Dan Hasty has the play-by-play. 

Ot will be Military Appreciation night as all active and retired members of the military will receive free tickets along with their families with the proper ID. 

The Titans will look to end a three-game slide as they come into the game at 8-13, 5-4 in the Horizon League, where just two games separate third place from eighth place.

Cleveland State is coming off its first HL win as the Vikings defeated Youngstown State and are now 6-16, 1-8 in league play. 

Detroit Mercy is 43-24 all-time against CSU, including 27-4 in Calihan Hall.

The 43 victories against Cleveland State are tied for the third most in school history with the 43 against Xavier and behind only the 58 versus Eastern Michigan and 57 against Loyola Chicago.

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • The Titans have won five of the last seven meetings and lead the all-time series 43-24. 
  • Detroit Mercy won the first 20 games against the Vikings at home and are on another four-game winning streak in the Motor City as the red, white and blue are 27-4 all-time in Calihan Hall versus the green and white. 
  • Cleveland State's last win at Calihan Hall was 86-78 in 2014. 

AD GETTING BUCKETS
  • Antoine Davis topped the team with 28 points at UIC and has led the team in scoring 19 times, while sharing the team high with 29 alongside Josh McFolley in one game against Green Bay, giving him a lead or share of the top effort in all 20 games he has played. 
  • He now has 14, 20-point games, eight 30+ performances and a pair of 40-point efforts in his first 20 collegiate games, the only freshman in school history with two 40-point outings. 
  • He is one of just four freshmen in Division I to score in double figures in every game they have played on the year (RJ Barrett & Zion Williamson-Duke, Lamine Diane-Cal State Northridge)
  • To start the year, he posted eight-straight 20-point games, the first Titan to have eight-straight games with 20 or more since Willie Green's 10 in a row in 2002-03.
  • His eight 30-point games on the season are the most since Archie Tullos had 10 in 1987-88.

ABOUT THAT 48-POINT GAME
  • Antoine Davis' season-high 48 points against Wright State was the fourth most in league play in Horizon League history and the most since LaSalle's Kareem Townes had 52 against Loyola (Ill) in 1995. 
  • The 48 points is the sixth most by a league player against any competition in the 40 years of the Horizon League.
  • He is also the third freshman since 1996-97 to score at least 48 points joining Oklahoma's  Trae Young's 48 points against Oklahoma State last season and St. Peter's Keydren Clark's 48 against Northern Arizona in 2002.

DAVIS ALREADY WITH 3 TITAN FRESHMAN RECORDS
  • Freshman Antoine Davis has already taken down three Titan freshman records this season in points in a game (48), 3-pointers in a season (96) and total points (545).
  • He passed former Titan great Ray McCallum (446 in 2009-10) and John Long (445 in 1974-75) in the total point category and Corey Allen for points in a game (33) and 3-pointers (79).

HORIZON LEAGUE MARKS
  • Freshman Antoine Davis is also attacking some freshman Horizon League records as he already owns the mark for points in a game (48) and 3-pointers in a season (96). 
  • He is currently second in most points by a freshman in Horizon League history as his 545 on the season trails only former UIC standout Dikembe Dixson's 594 in 2015-16.

DAVIS AMONG NATION'S LEADERS
  • Freshman Antoine Davis - the six-time HL Freshman of the Week and two-time Player of the Week - comes into the contest leading the nation in three national categories and among the leaders in a few others.
  • Davis is second in the nation in scoring at 27.3 points, trailing Campbell's senior guard Chris Clemons' 28.3. 
  • He leads the nation with 96 triples and 4.85, 3-pointers per game and is fourth in total points (545) and fifth in field goals (188). 
  • Davis is tied for second in the Horizon League and 46th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (41.9%), seventh in the HL and 71st in DI in free throw percentage (84.9%) and first in the conference and 12th in the country in minutes per game (37:09). 

SHOOTING HIS WAY TO RECORDS
  • Freshman Antoine Davis already has 96 triples on the season, a Titan freshman record and already third in school history. 
  • He is chasing the NCAA record for most 3-pointers by a freshman, held by Stephen Curry, who had 122 at Davidson in 2006-07.

WHO WILL START?
  • Freshman Willy Isiani became the 11th Titan to start a game this year when he got the nod at UIC.
  • The 11 different starters are tied for first in the country with Harvard, Princeton, Incarnate Word and Eastern Washington. 
  • Detroit Mercy has also used nine different starting line-ups this season. 

ZONE PRINCIPLES
  • The Titans have frustrated teams at times trying to shoot the three ball as they are holding teams to 33.5 percent from behind the arc, fourth in the Horizon League. 
  • Last year, the Titans ended the season ranked 333rd in three-point field goal percentage defense (39.7%). 
  • Overall, the defense has held teams to shooting 44.0 percent or less in 10 games on the year and under 40.0 percent on six occasions, including YSU to just 37.5 percent, CSU to 38.6 percent and WSU to 37.7 percent. 

ANOTHER FOREIGN TITAN
  • Detroit Mercy freshman Willy Isiani made his long-awaited debut against NKU and scored nine points, hitting three 3-pointers in just 11 minutes of action, until he suffered a head injury that kept him out for a few games. 
  • He came back with four more 3-pointers at Oakland, finishing with 12 points. 
  • His last time out, he tallied 20 points nailing six more from downtown at IUPUI and is now 14-of-31 (45.2%) from the field on the season, all from behind the arc. 
  • A native of Tbilisi, Georgia, Isiani, was at ASI Prep in California last year and averaged 8.4 points and 4.0 rebounds, while shooting 40.0 percent from three. 
  • Prior to that, he suited up overseas for CB Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria B in Spain and MIA Academy Tbilisi and played in the 2017 FIBA U-20 European Championship Division B for Georgia. 
  • He was also the MVP in the 16-U Georgia National Championship and the U-18 Tbilisi Championship
  • He is believed to be the first Titan from the country of Georgia. 

HAMRICK TIME
  • Junior Lamar Hamrick scored 14 points with four rebounds and four steals hitting 6-of-8 from the field at UIC. 
  • He posted a season and game-high 11 rebounds with six points, three steals and two assists at Cleveland State and that was after recording 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds along with four assists and two steals at Youngstown State.
  • He started the season with 13 points - 10 in the second half - to go with a team-high four steals at WMU and pulled down a team-high nine boards with four assists against Kent State. 
  • He hit three from distance and finished with nine points at Akron and had a season-high 16 points at Dayton with three steals. 

NO JOSHING AROUND
  • Senior Josh McFolley - who was named the HL Player of the Week on Jan. 14 - scored a season-high 29 points - his 13th career 20-point game - hitting 10-of-16 from the field and 6-of-9 from three with five steals against Green Bay and came back with 18 points against Milwaukee. 
  • He is now averaging 12.7 points - 18th in the HL - 3.1 assists, 2.5 rebounds and an HL best 2.1 steals per game. 
  • He netted 19 points with five assists at IUPUI his last time out. 
  • He had 19 points with a season-high seven rebounds off the bench at Akron and tallied nine points and tied his season high for the third time this year with six assists at Xavier. 
  • In the HL opener at Youngstown State, McFolley ended with 14 points, while tallying 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals at Cleveland State. 

1,305 & COUNTING
  • After scoring 19 points at Oakland, senior Josh McFolley is now 22nd in school history with 1,305 points, 36 shy of 21st place.

PICKING YOUR POCKET
  • Senior Josh McFolley has been a thief all of his Titan career and posted a season-high five steals against Green Bay.
  • He also has registered four steals at Xavier, at Temple and against Kent State. 
  • He now has 44 steals on the year and leads the Horizon League and is 40th in the nation with 2.10 steals per game.
  • The 190 thefts are tied for third in school history, just six away from the school record. 
  • He led the team and was tied for second in the HL with 1.5 steals per game last year as his 49 steals was the second most in the league. 
  • In his career, he has recorded a steal in 88 of his 114 career games, including 44 multi-steal contests and 27 with at least three takeaways.

G CRASHING THE GLASS
  • Senior Gerald Blackshear Jr. had a career day scoring a career-best 13 points at UIC with eight rebounds and a career-tying three steals.
  • He hit all five of his shots and was then 2-for-2 at IUPUI.
  • In fact, he is 13-of-15 from the field in his last four games and is hitting 66.0 percent from the field this year and 61.4 percent in his career. 
  • He pulled down eight rebounds in 21 minutes against Oakland and that was after a netting nine points in just 13 minutes of action against Milwaukee, hitting all four of his shots. 
  • In the season opener at Western Michigan, he showed just how important he is registering eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds in just 23 minutes of court time.
  • The 10 rebounds were the most since he pulled down a career-best 11 boards at Cleveland State as a sophomore. 
  • He recorded a game-high eight rebounds against Wright State, doing a good job of helping the Titans contain the Raiders' big guys in a win. 
  • He compiled six points, a team-high seven rebounds and two steals at Butler, a team-high nine boards against Loyola Maryland and eight points with six boards at Xavier. 
  • He also leads the team with 4.6 rebounds per game. 

KING ME
  • Graduate senior Derrien King saw his streak of seven-straight games in double figures come to an end against Oakland, but he has reached double figures 11 times on the year.
  • He posted 16 points against Milwaukee, his second highest output of the season.
  • He had 11 points and five rebounds against Green Bay and scored 15 at Cleveland State, 11 versus Wright State and 14 against NKU. 
  • He also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds at Xavier and had six boards at CSU. 
  • He was named to the Legends Classic Subregional All-Tournament Team after recording 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while nailing eight triples in wins over Loyola Maryland and Bowling Green. 
  • He had 14 points and a career-tying seven rebounds in the title game versus BGSU and that was after scoring a season-high 17 points - hitting four 3-pointers - with four rebounds, two assists a steal and a block.

WE GOT OUR CURRY
  • It was a long road for junior Harrison Curry to get back on the court, but he has added a much-needed inside presence for the Titans.
  • He is averaging 6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds in his last five games tallying his first career double-double with 11 points and a season-high 10 boards against Green Bay.
  • He registered nine points and tied for the team lead with seven boards, swatting a career-high three blocks at IUPUI.
  • Curry also had seven points and tied for the team lead with eight boards against Milwaukee and posted six points and seven boards versus Oakland. 
  • In his Titan debut, he scored 16 points with three rebounds and two blocks at Toledo. 
  • He then had 12 points with four rebounds, a block and a steal against Ohio, 12 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks at Youngstown State and 10 points at CSU. 
  • After playing just one game at Louisiana Tech last year before an injury in the season opener forced him to miss the year, he transferred to Detroit Mercy and applied for a waiver to play immediately.
  • He missed the first nine games this year before it was approved by the NCAA.
