DETROIT (1/8/2019) -- Seventeen of 19 teams had a GPA better than a 3.0 GPA and the University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics had another great academic semester in the classroom with the collective department posting a GPA of 3.39.
Fourteen of the squads had a GPA of better than 3.3 and seven teams had a 3.4 GPA or better during the fall semester. It marked the fifth-straight semester that Detroit Mercy has posted at least a collective 3.2 GPA and fourth-straight of 3.3 GPA or better as an athletic department.
Among the team leaders in GPA were women's golf with a 3.82, women's lacrosse at 3.58, softball with a 3.52 GPA and men's soccer at 3.51 GPA. Both men's and women's tennis shined in the classroom with 3.48 and 3.46 GPAs, respectively, while men's golf posted a 3.39 GPA and men's lacrosse had a 3.37 GPA.
Twenty-three (23) Detroit Mercy student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester.
Titan senior standout Ben Kendell was named the Horizon League Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Fall following his standout season in cross country. It was Kendell's fifth time that he earned a Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Season honor.
