DETROIT (2/11/2019) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's fencers Algird Szumlas and Wiley Dressell combined to go a perfect 21-0 on Saturday at the Wayne State University Duals, held in downtown Detroit on the campus of WSU. It was the final dual meet of the season for the Titans.

Szumlas went 12-0 in foil, while Dressell recorded a 9-0 mark for the Titans on Saturday against opponents from Michigan, Michigan State, Wayne State and Denison.

As a team, Detroit Mercy went 1-3 with the victory coming over Michigan State (14-13). The Titans also fell to the host Warriors (19-8) and had narrow losses to both Denison (15-12) and Michigan (14-13). Men's foil helped pace the team, securing 28 bout victories collectively (28-8) and not dropping a head-to-head match-up as a weapon.

Also in foil, senior Josh Blackburn finished with a 10-2 mark, while freshman Jaydon Alojipan went 6-6. In men's epee, junior Christopher Morrison led the weapon at 6-6, while freshmen Peter Swanney and Bryce Sturgis each recorded two bout victories.

Dressell went 3-0 against Michigan, Michigan State and Denison, while Szumlas went 3-0 against all four teams that the Titans faced on Saturday. After the dual meet season, Szumlas has a mark of 65-15 on the season and Dressell has a record of 56-17 for the red, white and blue.

Individual Titans then head to the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Saturday, March 9, held in South Bend, Ind. at Notre Dame.
