Sophia DiMilia scored a career-high 20 points and three Titans scored in double figures, but the red, white and blue fell to rival Oakland at home, 76-65, on Saturday. Freshman
Paige Bellman added 14 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for the Titans in the setback, while senior
Lola Ristovski scored 10 points.
It was a back-and-forth game between the two crosstown rivals with Detroit Mercy leading for much of the first half and trailing at the break, 34-32. The Titans jumped off to a 10-0 run early in the third quarter with freshman
Jess Bicknell scoring five points in the run. Oakland would take a lead after three, 52-47, and then close the home squad out in the fourth quarter.
DiMilia finished with four 3-pointers and hit 8-of-19 shots in the contest, adding three steals. Bellman was 6-of-11 from the floor as Detroit Mercy shot 41-percent in the game, overall. The Titans also went off for a season-best 10 3-pointers.
Scouting UIC
The Flames are 1-12 in Horizon League play and have dropped their past eight games overall. On the season, UIC is 1-11 away from Chicago. UIC is coming off an 83-59 loss to Youngstown State at home on Feb. 10.
Brittany Byrd leads the team in scoring, starting all 24 games and averaging 13.9 points per game, which ranks third in the Horizon League. Sophomore forward Jada Nneji leads the league and is among the national leaders in blocks (60) and blocks per game (3.0). She also leads the squad in rebounding at 6.6 caroms per game.
UIC is third in the Horizon League in blocks per game (3.9) and fifth in steals per game (8.1). Byrd has team-highs with 38 triples and 36 steals, while Jasmine Gaines leads the team in assists with 34.

Detroit Mercy holds a 30-24 series lead over UIC and holds a 16-12 mark in home contests against the Flames. The Titans are winners in seven of the past 10 games and in each of the past three meetings.
