DETROIT (2/18/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team opens the home portion of its schedule Tuesday afternoon, hosting Big East opponent Butler for a 1 p.m. contest from Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac. Admission into the game is free for all fans.
The Titans (0-2) dropped a non-conference road game in their last outing on Sunday at Marquette. Junior midfielder
Kaitlyn Wandelt led the way offensively for the Titans with four goals, while senior attacked
Lexie Kinmond added three points.
Fans that attend Tuesday's home opener will receive a 2019 women's lacrosse team poster, while schedule cards and other promotional items will be available. It's the third consecutive season playing Butler with the Titans earning victories in each of the past two seasons over the Bulldogs, including by a 16-6 margin last season on the road.

Last Time Out
The Titans dropped a 22-9 game against Marquette on Sunday in Milwaukee. Detroit Mercy kept even with the Golden Eagles in the first half as each defense was strong early. The first 15 minutes of the contest yielded just three goals as MU held an early 2-1 lead. McDonough made four saves in net before Marquette could get on the scoreboard. Wandelt scored two of her four goals in the first half and Kinmond scored both of her goals in the first half as Detroit Mercy trailed 7-4 at the halftime break. McDonough had nine saves at the half. The Golden Eagles used a few second half runs to take advantage of the win in the second half and seal the victory.
Marquette had the shot advantage in the game, 40-30, which included a 31-18 lead in shots on goal. Both teams made nine saves, while ground balls were nearly even as well with Marquette holding a 20-19 edge. MU had 19 draw controls, while Detroit Mercy finished with 13. Meredith Moore added three ground balls for the Titans, while senior defender
Ali Magyaros and Kinmond each had two ground balls and one caused turnover. In addition to Wandelt's nine draw controls,

Milestone Watch
• Junior
Kaitlyn Wandelt is tied for fourth place all-time in career points at 176 with former Titan Tessa Keuler. Wandelt has 142 goals and 34 assists in 46 career games and ranks second all-time in school history in points per game (3.83), ranking only behind former Titan standout Emily Boissonneault (3.94 points per game). Wandelt became the 12th player in school history with 100 career ground balls after scooping up five GB against Marquette.
• Senior attacker
Lexie Kinmond has 209 points (117 goals, 92 assists) and is 63 points off the all-time mark. She became the third Titan with 200 career points with eight points in the SoCon semifinals last season. Kinmond ranks third in points per game in school history (3.80) and first all-time in assists per game (1.67). Kinmond is eight assists shy of 100 in her Titan career.
• Senior goalkeeper
Allison McDonough became the second player in program history with 500 career saves after turning away nine shots at Marquette. She is second all-time in school history with her 501 career stops and ranks fourth in career ground balls (159). McDonough is also second in ground balls per game (2.79) in school history.
Scouting Butler
The Bulldogs are 0-1 on the season after dropping a 16-8 contest with Duquesne at home on Feb. 14. It's the second game of the season for Butler. Duquesne held a 6-4 lead over the Bulldogs at halftime, before scoring 10 goals in the second half. The Dukes held a 49-18 shot advantage in the contest.
Sophomore attacker Karina Latsko led Butler with three goals in the opener, while sophomore attacker Ashley Guerra added two goals for the Bulldogs. Latsko and senior defender Carly Hewitt each had three caused turnovers for Butler and in net, sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Rumsey had 14 saves for the Bulldogs for a 46.7 save percentage.
All-Time Series
The Titans hold a 2-0 series lead all-time with Butler with each of those victories coming in the past two seasons. Detroit Mercy earned a 16-6 road victory over the Bulldogs last year on March 3, 2018.

Detroit Mercy also defeated Butler, 20-9, during the Bulldogs' first season of women's lacrosse in 2017, from Ultimate Soccer Arenas. Kinmond led the Titans with seven points in that game.
Titans Picked Second; Trio of Titans Earn Preseason Honors
The Titans were voted to finish second in the second season of Southern Conference women's lacrosse and three Titans were selected to the 12-member All-SoCon Preseason Team with the league office releasing the preseason honors on Feb. 1.
Titan captains
Morgan Girardi (Watertown, N.Y.),
Lexie Kinmond (Peterborough, Ont.) and
Kaitlyn Wandelt (Sayville, N.Y.) were each voted to the All-Southern Conference Preseason Team. All three were First Team All-Conference honorees a year ago when Detroit Mercy went 10-8 overall and 4-1 in league play to earn a share of the SoCon regular-season crown. In the preseason poll, Detroit Mercy received two first-place votes and was just one point off the top spot, earning 20 points. Furman was voted to finish first with 21 points, earning three first-place votes.

Detroit Mercy returns to the road for each of the next two contests, traveling to Cincinnati for a non-conference game with the Bearcats on Sunday, Feb. 24 at noon. The Titans then return to play the following weekend in Pittsburgh, playing at Duquense on Sunday, March 3 in a 12 p.m. ET game.
